I see. But that is different. What you click "test server" you are opening the calibre server web page on your PC in your default browser. Kovid has already said that this will not work with IE... you must browse the calibre server with FireFox or Chrome.
However, when you hit the server with your iPod it doesn't matter what browser is your default on your PC. You iPod should work either way. Can you test that and confirm that it doesn't make a difference? BOb |

I have the same error on the touch and on MSIE 7 I did notice a javascript error on the lower left when running on IE however. The error is as follows:
Line: 12 Char: 1 Error: Expected Identifier, string, or number Code: 0 URL: http://127.0.0.1:8080 It works fine for me on firefox and doesn't work on MSIE. It also shows up on mobile safari on the touch. I do notice that if I preview the http://local:8080/stanza feed in firefox, the feed is empty whereas I would think it should be populated with the books that showup while viewing http://local:8080 I will say this however: Stanza desktop works just fine to copy over books on the PC side Last edited by volwrath; 01-04-2009 at 06:50 PM. |

Probably just a log flushing issue. Shutdown the calibre GUI and run the following in a terminal instead
Code:
calibre-server --develop |

OK I get this: The two timestamps 19:36 are for local:8080/stanza
The time stamps of 19:37 are for the local:8080 127.0.0.1 - - [04/Jan/2009:19:36:11] "GET /stanza HTTP/1.1" 200 317 "" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5" 127.0.0.1 - - [04/Jan/2009:19:36:11] "GET /stanza HTTP/1.1" 200 317 "" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5" 127.0.0.1 - - [04/Jan/2009:19:37:07] "GET /library?_=1231119427203&start=0&num=20&sort=date&o rder=descending HTTP/1.1" 200 1296 "http://127.0.0.1:8080/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5" 127.0.0.1 - - [04/Jan/2009:19:37:07] "GET /library?_=1231119427203&start=0&num=20&sort=date&o rder=descending HTTP/1.1" 200 1296 "http://127.0.0.1:8080/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5" |

Hmm well nothing useful in the logs, I'll have to debug this in a windows machine myself, when I get the chance.

New data point:
Success! That is, I tried connecting to Calibre on a different PC on the home network. And on this one, it worked like a charm. No problem at all. We can see the whole book list from the iTouch, and a trial download was a cinch. So what's different? The configurations on both machines are identical, to the best of my knowledge, except for two things: Sagittarius, which did not work, is a laptop with a wireless connection to the network. It is also XP Pro. Orion, which did work, is a desktop with an ethernet connection to the network, and it runs XP Home. Other than that, any differences are entirely accidental. Same antivirus, same firewall, same Calibre config. I don't know if that helps in the debugging effort, but at least it has things working in our home. |

Still doesn't work. So there's some mysterious difference between the two. I'm going to stop fussing and just let my wife download from the second machine. (And Kovid has closed the case on his end.) But for anyone who still struggles with this, the lesson might be: try Calibre on a different computer on your home network. |
