I'm using ADE 3.0 on Windows 7, and haven't had any problems with it. Edit: Here's my copy I used, v2.1.2.28770, in case it's a different version than the one you're trying to install. Last edited by Ripplinger; 11-03-2015 at 01:43 PM. |

Well, you made me curious. Just checked ADE 2.0 and Nookstudy on my Windows 7 PC and both still work. Nookstudy took forever to load, but it always does.

I really don't download any books through ADE though, so that's never been an issue. It's more like the necessary evil needed in the background to me for everything else to work.

I have ADE 3.0 on my Win 8.1 machine and have no issue downloading DRMed EPUBS and then importing them into Calibre to strip the DRM. I'll have to remember to roll it back to an earlier version if I run into issues in the future.

If you do get a book with the new drm, you can't download with the old drm. Once you get it that's it. It would be better to go to ADE 2 now.

I'm able to run both 1.7 and 2.0 ADE on Windows 7. I would think Hemmi could install both 2.0 and 3.0, and only use 3.0 if absolutely necessary. (I'm wondering if Hemmi's considered that uninstalling 3.0 will mess up his authorization).

I thought downloading with Nook Study got around that problem? Maybe I just haven't bought any books with the new DRM?

She's talking about regular Adept DRM'd books (like you'd get from Kobo, Google, etc.). Adobe has a new hardened DRM scheme that ADE 3 and later support, but AFAIK no one is issuing books using this DRM at this time. As a precaution the general wisdom is to stick with ADE 1.7 or 2 in order as to not get caught with books that can't be de-DRM'd at this time if a retailer were to implement the newer DRM at some point.

I guess I'll leave well enough alone for now and worry about it when it's a problem. So far I have no problems with removing DRM from any purchases no matter where I buy them from. I'll admit though I don't buy from Google, I've run across too many books that looked like they were scanned and converted by people who didn't know what they were doing, so I just avoid Google Books.

I've given up. I can no longer bother fighting Nook to be able to read my purchased books on something other than my phone or PC. Now that Analog (maybe Asimov's as well) is available on Google Play, that's where I'm heading.
And Kobo still think that Analog is a "glossy" magazine that can only be read on a tablet. I despair. Update: Google Play is just as bad. I thought I would get a book but no, I have to read magazines using their newsagent app. I despair even more now. Goodbye Analog after 40+ years of reading. There's plenty more to read out there. Rant over. Sorry for the noise. Last edited by ballfresno; 11-07-2015 at 05:39 AM. |
