You're not that far from Whitby so you should go up there and read it. That's where Bram Stoker got the inspiration to write the original Dracula.

Well, closer than you, but still about five hours away by car, or six hours by train and bus. I'll pass.

I've never heard anyone call Norfolk "close" to North Yorkshire before . Whitby is a beautiful place, though. Well worth a visit. I had the best fish and chips I've ever eaten in Whitby!

I finished Deadlock, the second V. I. Warshawski book. On to another few chapters of Master Li and Number Ten Ox to cleanse the palate before I go on to something along the lines of The Girl with All the Gifts

5/5 again. An excellent story. Poor old Sharpe! Cornwell doesn't half put him through the wringer!

I'm exceedingly pleased that I picked this lot up back in October and December 2013 when they were on special offer.
They are excellent. I wish I had them all. As it is, I'll buy them one at a time, while watching for another special.

Well, that was good. Just finished reading The Woman Who Walked in Sunshine. Very good as was expected. Will drop it in the library return box so someone else can have a go at it. Just starting Sonoma Rose. I've also been reading Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye by Tanio del Rio -- an ARC from NetGalley. The story is pretty good so far, but I'm really unhappy with the formatting. I think it's just a problem with the ARC, not one that will be there when the book is properly published on 24 November.

Just read 'The Road to Little Dribbling' by Bill Bryson.
Not as enjoyable as his previous books (IMO) but
still good for a few laugh out loud moments! More of
an old mans endless rant, rather than the balanced
moans and then common sense, of the earlier books.
And have started 'Back Story' the Autobiography
of the 'other' David Mitchell (the TV comic actor and
presenter,NOT the author of 'Cloud Atlas' et al!)

Which was fun, dragging in another legend.

Next up: A purchase from 2007, the title of which escapes me for the moment!

Finished The Girl with All the Gifts by M. R. Carey, which was excellent, though not in my favorite genre... I am halfway through Master Li and Number Ten Ox, still hilarious.

I am also starting The Diabolical Miss Hyde by Viola Carr; recently released.

I'm being pulled back into the deplorable habit (okay, I never totally recovered) of reading several books at once. With the three I'm currently focusing on, I just added a forth: The Preacher; a graphic series by Garth Ennis (co-created with artist Steve Dillon) about a supernatural Preacher, his trigger-happy gun-toting ex, and an Irish vampire. I was interested when I saw that a 2016 series is being adapted for AMC. The trailer for the upcoming TV series is here if you're curious.

Two books recently completed:

"The Lighter Side" by Keith Laumer, bought from Baen in 2002. Enjoyable, but not great; I'm not a big fan of humorous fiction, and I far prefer Laumer's more serious work.

"The Case of the Late Pig" by Margery Allingham. The 8th book in the "Campion" series. Campion is called in by a police officer who is his friend to help investigate the curious affair of a man who is found murdered, despite having supposedly died and been buried six months earlier. An excellent story. Allingham changes her writing style in this book to be a first person narration by Campion, rather than the third person of the previous books in the series, and it works very well. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed 1Q84. It certainly isn't my normal type of book but was very good. I am still waiting on a couple library books so I will probably finish The Eiger Sanction over the next few days instead of starting something else.

This also completed my page goals for the year, yay! A good way to finish my goals.

It was The Mind Monsters by Howard L. Cory which reminded me a bit of The Warlock in Spite of Himself, but not funny, and not as good. Far too many unanswered questions, and not very good characterisation either. Disappointing.

I really enjoyed those Stasheff books back in the day... Cost me an arm and a leg to catch up, though. I'll have to look in the library and see if I can get them that way.

Halfway through Dr. Jekyll... Got my son started on The Martian, he says it goes from zero to a hundred on the first sentence.
