I happen to be reading that story, and the key to downloading it lies in the links at the bottom of each post, take the last one before the story only link and use it as your download source, it has something resembling an appropriate index for downloading. A current example link would be this.

If you've been trying a lot, you may bumped into this one:

On AO3 the problem is that some fics take a very long time trying to download (more then 30 minutes without ever going above 0% or 1%).
Others download normally, if I am doing one per try. If I try to download 2 or 3 at the same time, it never works.

But with the story http://archiveofourown.org/works/2592665 I never manage to pass from 1%.

Considering that the job never finishes, I am kind lost on how to send the debug mode.... If I cancel the job and get the resulting debug it will have utility?

If you're trying to download from AO3 today, that's the problem. They're having intermittent connection problems, and so it's not specific to FFF. Wait until tomorrow and try again.

554 chapters? Really? Next time, please list the story with one chapter before the story with 554.

Regardless, I was able to download both of those stories without error. If you can duplicate the error while running calibre in debug mode (under calibre's preferences dropdown) and post the debug log, I may be able to help more.

As others have reported, I also am seeing site failures on AO3. FanFicFare already has mechanisms to retry several times with increasing delays between them. There's nothing more that can be done from our end.

Okay, now that I've figured out debug mode, I can post the log. Still unable to change defaults.ini though.
Edit: Found it, didn't think to look in a zip file.
Edit: In trying to change it, I ended up breaking it

You never need to change anything inside the plugin zip file. In the FanFicFare configuration, there's a tab 'personal.ini'. Click the button for 'Edit personal.ini'. Make your config changes there.

fictionhunt seems to be an interesting site. I quickly found a fic that is no longer available on ff.net too. http://fictionhunt.com/read/10739343/1 it looks as if this site may be of some use to ff.net readers who lose a fic for one reason or another.
