No problem for me on iPad Air (now that the Game center popup is finally gone).

Well, I think I'm having the issue with notification sounds on my iPhone 6+ that Harry was talking about. If I'm near my MacBook Pro when I get a text message I can hear the ping notification on the MacBook Pro. It is really loud so I don't know if my iPhone 6+ also pings or not. However, yesterday I was in another room and during the day I received three text messages, none of which did I hear a ping. I only discovered them later when doing something else on the phone. I keep my iPhone 6+ in an Otterbox Defender case and use the belt holster. But in the past this has never been an issue with hearing the notifications, even when listening to the TV.

Have you upgraded to 9.1, Jack? My problem seems to have entirely gone away since I upgraded from 9.0.2 to 9.1.

Yes, I've got 9.1 installed and still have the issue. I'm wondering if having multiple iThings and a Mac computer just confuses the devices as to which send notification sounds. Still having sporadic notification sound issue on Mail on my MacBook Pro. Sometimes works, sometimes not.

I found that confusion reduced considerably (I just realised this, after having previously posted no issues) that turning off "Handoff" simplifies things. I dont need notifications on anything except my phone.

Yesterday, I left my iPhone downstairs and answered a call on my iMac. I regularly check text on my Apple Watch rather than pull my iPhone out. For me, the handoff is the coolest feature of iOS 9, even if it is currently imperfect.

I think the handoff feature might be the culprit with my lack of notification sounds for text messages. I currently have it set to handoff SMS to my MacBook Pro. This worked fine under iOS 8, BTW. I also have issues with too many unknown callers annoying me with their telemarketing BS, not an iOS issue of course, so I set up the Do Not Disturb feature to always be active but allow calls from my Favorites list. That works as it does silence the unknown callers, but I wonder if perhaps it is buggie and also silencing all SMS too. I'm testing this out by disabling the Do Not Disturb feature today to see if I now get SMS notification sounds on the iPhone 6+.

Well after turning off the Do Not Disturb feature today I had a friend send a few text messages and the sound notifications worked properly. I put the iPhone in sleep mode first to better test it. I got the sound notification on my iPhone with each text and then it popped up the message box with sound notification on my MacBook Pro. So I guess there is either a bug in the Do Not Disturb feature, or they simply didn't design it the way I thought they did.

Do Not Disturb is designed to block sound for calls, messages and app alerts. Alarms will still make noise.

It wasn't allowing sound notifications for text messages when I had it turned on, so I guess there is a bug.

iOS 9.1 has been released

Why would it play text message notifications to begin with? It is Do Not Disturb after all...

It's not supposed to allow sounds for messages if do not disturb is on. Also I think the allowance for selected people only applies to calls.

You can place contacts in your Favorites and allow those calls to go through during Do Not Disturb.

And that is the thing that is not clear to me in any way. Favorites can ring the phone, but can they cause sound notifications for their text messages and email? Seems to me that would be the logical way for it to work, but Apple is not always logical. If you allow calls to ring, why wouldn't you allow sound notifications from these contacts as well? Seems to me that allowing Favorites to override Do Not Disturb should allow all types of contact from those contacts. Why on earth would you want to allow the ringer for calls but block sound notifications from the same contacts when they text or email you? Questions are directed at Apple, BTW.

With regard to telemarketers... I have set up a new contact called "Serial Pest" and every time I get an unsolicited call where the number is actually shown (they are now getting round it by blocking the number) I add it to the contact details for the Pest. Its working for known numbers. Nothing will work for the blocked ones. Except DND. I'm afraid I have a full DND active, I have to have a daily nap or die, and I do not want any disturbance during that hour or so. Its also active between 11pm and 6am
