Well, it does make you wonder what kind of QA testing it went through...
Not working with ADE is kind of a large, noticeable error. ![]() And IMHO it is completely stupid to export an MTP share in which you can only write to a specific subdirectory -- why not just share the subdirectory and save a whole lot of grief on the part of many. |

As I understand the NGP needs to be authorized in order to read the ADE protected books but this authorization process now doesn't work bc of the MTP issue. The ADE support must be in the NGP software (hence the error dialog) but it doesn't have the necessary input. I wonder if you have another Nook that is already authorized and if you can copy the .adobe* files (seems there are such files) from there to the NGP ... |

Agreed. That's why I bought the NGP in the first place. I could have bought a PW3 or a Kobo Glo HD. If/when there's a rooting process in place that doesn't require opening up the device, I'll feel better about it. The challenge of rooting, and what I learn from it, will make it worthwhile - not to mention the satisfaction of being able to do more with my device. But I needed to vent a bit!

After I got myself very frustrated with the Onyx and Boyue devices, I realized there is not such thing as a perfect device and scaled my expectations back. Gave up on presence of SD card slot, more memory, USB hosting, bluetooth, audio, etc (they had all that but the screen was horrible and maybe some other issues) and NSTG is still my favorite reader, mostly for the way the display shows the text ![]() |

BTW and FYI: the MAC address of the wifi is in the "Choose Network to Use"/Menu/Help !
It is also specified in the User's Guide, but who reads those ... |

If you root it, yes. Otherwise no.

![]() If they're not library books, they can be DeDRMed and copied manually, or using calibre directly (connect to folder or wait for v2.42.0). If they are library books, you can still send them via calibre (but you can't DRM them). The problem is that the device isn't authorized... |

The poster I was replying to started this subthread with "My MacBook does not even recognize this device. ". From that I got the impression they had no way to get any of their books onto it, DRMed or nonDRMed.

When I called Nook support they said it was a known issue and was one which was already escalated. They said I could try in a week or so.
ADE authorization is indeed the issue. Since we can sideload books on to the Nook without Calibre support (though I love Calibre especially with my Kobo, many thanks to Kovid for his work on it), or ADE. I'm tempted to play around with copying an authorization folder from another Nook over to the NGLP after editing what is clearly marked as device specific things. One thing we'll need is the SN of the NGLP which is easy, but there may be some other less so obvious things. I'm not even sure this will work. |

Was playing with the NGP rebooting it often and I got "Your NOOK is too cold. You can turn it on again in a few minutes" msg twice already ...
I'm indoor at 72F ... I don't think that's cold. The metal back does feel cold to the touch ... very strange ... That's like the opposite of running hot that some cell phones do ![]() |

So at this point, it would appear the only problem left is the DRMed books that need the device to receive an ADE verification. |

Since lots of people are apparently having trouble with this device, I uploaded beta builds of calibre 2.41 with the changes to support the glowlight plus
