Yes, London is at about the same latitude as Calgary in Canada.

On t'other hand, if I'm going to be getting up in the dark no matter what, I'd rather have the light at the end of the day. The difference between being dark at 4:30 and dark at 5:30 is a critical one, IMO. Of course if I lived in the western part of the time zone, and the eastern time zone cuts a broad swath, I'd have that as a matter of course. There has been some suggestion that this neck of the woods should go on Atlantic time; much as I'd like that, it's not realistic that we be out of sync with New York.

I find the human manipulation of what time it gets light/dark to be a very silly practice, but it doesn't really physically affect me at all. Clocks/computers that update themselves are a godsend in that regard. They allow me to completely ignore that time is being "changed."

And I hate darkness and love the sun. I just wish they would set the time one way or the other and leave it alone. I have to admit that now that I am retired the time change does not bother me as much, but I still which they would set it a leave it.

I've never understood the "problems" with schoolchildren going to school in the dark - if we were to abolish DST, that is. Couldn't they simply change the school hours to later/earlier by the clock in winter?
