I'm with you on that. The front looks better in pictures than in person. It's Frankenstein-like. And the "n" doesn't blend in with the bezel. They should have kept it a button.

Definitely glad to hear that. Only two fonts sizes would be a deal killer ... for just about everyone, I would imagine.

I tried to transfer a file from my Mac to my Nook, but the Nook window in Android File Transfer wouldn't take it (very odd). Then, the next time I connected my Nook to my Mac, Android File Transfer didn't come up. When I started it up, it asked me to connect an Android device by USB cable. So, my Mac can't "see" my Nook at all now. I tried resetting my Nook and still no go. Any suggestions?

Edit: My Nook now is "seen" by my Mac. Not sure why! Android File Transfer can see it. I can transfer books that way, but I cannot create new folders on the Nook through Android File Transfer.

Then, I started playing with Calibre. I got the same "failure to communicate" message when I first connected my Nook to Calibre. However, after a little while, I used the "configure device" feature in Calibre to tell Calibre where to send books. Then I tried sending books. Calibre could not see the books on my Nook, and they didn't show up on my Nook. But then, a few minutes later, they showed up in my Nook library. The next book I sent showed up immediately in my Nook library. But Calibre can't see the books on my Nook. That's where the communication glitch seems to be.
Calibre doesn't seem to like the Glowlight Plus

As to AFT, if it gives you that error, leave it running and just unplug the GLP and then plug it back in.

Finally, you don't seem to be able to copy anything to the root directory, even in Windows, you need to copy it to either the Nook directory or one of the enclosed directories.

Has anyone had any luck getting Adobe Digital Editions to see their Glowlight Plus? Calibre can at least detect the device, though seems to error out when trying to communicate with it. ADE doesn't even acknowledge the device exists.

Any ideas on how we would get books borrowed from the public library on to the Glowlight, without stripping the DRM.

There is no mention of ADE or library borrowing on the NGP's feature summary or user guide. Nor is it listed as a compatible device at Adobe's website.

Darn, I thought that sounded interesting. I put a skin on my Voyage to differentiate the bezel from the screen (and to cover the glare of the bezel).

That might be why calibre errors out when talking to this device, since the calibre MTP driver tries to place a couple of files in the root of the device. If someone can post the list of folders on the device to which it is possible to transfer files and also the usb ids for the device (which you can get by plugging in the device and running

calibre-debug -d

in a command prompt

I can try modifying the MTP driver to special case this device and only put files inside a special folder.

NOOK is all capitals? Not Nook? I dont know if the filesystem on the Nook is case-sensitive, but best to be sure.

Yes, all capitals. I pasted it from my (Linux) terminal.
Not sure how it is in Windows ...

NOOK is always rendered in all capital letters on the B&N website.

You might like it then. It feels like having a skin around the edge except it also has tiny textured bumps.

This should do the trick (hard to be sure since I dont have the device to test with). https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...0ad14723ff57ee

If you can run calibre from source (instructions are in the user manual) you can try it out now, otherwise you will have to wait for me to get around to making a new build.

Spoke to someone at BN support, they did not say that the Glowlight Plus was not capable of loading public library books. The issue with ADE is "known and already escalated".

Don't think that'll help with Calibre but hopefully Kovid has already resolved that issue.
