Harry Potter sequel ...as a stage play
The eighth Potter story will not be a book, but a stage play entitled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and taking place nineteen years after the events in Deathly Hallows.

‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Play Details Revealed; 2-Part Sequel Set After ‘Deathly Hallows’

When we last saw Harry Potter at the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2, he was an adult, seeing off his own son to Hogwarts from King’s Cross’ Platform 9 3/4. Harry Potter And The Cursed Child will pick up from there. Details were revealed today about the stage play that’s based on a story by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany and comes from Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions. It was previously said that the play would fill in Harry’s untold story while there was some thought this might be a prequel. The production today confirmed it’s a continuation in what’s being referred to as the 8th part of the series.

News to me. She has drawn up a future family tree and is interested in one particular Potter descendant. Saw it in an interview with her.

If it is true, it is a betrayal. I only start to read Harry Potter (and has finished book 3) because she promises not to write more stories. I never read series that are not finished because I am afraid that something may happen to the author or the series doesn't end in a way that I like.

Not that I've ever seen. Everything I remember has her going out of her way to not say there would be nothing more. That she had no current plans, but if she had some ideas in the future you never know there might be more from her in the HP world.

The Harry Potter story is done.
(Voldemort isn't coming back and his heirs won't be haunting harry. That is why the story has a 19-years later epilogue.)

Any future stories (and they are coming) will be separate prequels and/or feature other protagonists and be merely set in the same general world.

It was announced today that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be published in print and digital as a "script book". A Special Rehearsal Edition will be followed later by a Definitive Collector's Edition.

Theatre previews allow the creative team the chance to rehearse and explore scenes further before a production’s official opening night. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday 30 July and the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book will later be replaced by a Definitive Collector’s Edition.

She needs to stay busy writing something else. Potter ended at book seven--period. We don't need "George Lucas" rewriting anything or changing our perception of characters we got to know over so many years IMO.

Somewhat tangential to this, I've been reading a bit of Harry Potter fanfiction recently, and the only thing more alarming than Dumbledore's tendency to be evil is the fact that, when reconsidering the books, it actually makes a fair bit of sense.
