Yes

STD was the way I used to get files onto my PEz, it would leave behind stuff when I deleted the book (LBook FW). The dude made the cleanup. it also removes Adobe annotations (AKA bookmarks) for missing books

"correlate books" feature

Hello,
maybe someone would find this idea for new plugin also useful. Its target are mostly people who read books in multiple languages.

The idea is to correlate different languages of same book to each other.
I tried to describe its functionality below, but of course there may be coding constrains so the final way can be changed according possibilities.

Step 1) book in three languages
http://i61.tinypic.com/2eyl1kl.png

Step 2) create "Translation Group" The three books from example 1) are selected. Grouping could be done via key shortcut or context menu. Grouping could relate the three books by creating group index in form 0000X-0000Y, where 0000X would be number for author and 0000Y would be group. I have in example 1) 6 books where they would be grouped in two "Translation groups". First group would have index 00001-00001 and second group would have an index 00001-00002. This indexing could for example allow book sorting in book list view, to keep the books translation together.
http://i59.tinypic.com/eb3q00.png

Step 3) new Edit Matadata TAB "Books translations" created in each of related books For all books which would become "Translation group" member, would have new TAB created in Edit metadata dialog
http://i61.tinypic.com/k3adc0.png

Step 4) "Books translations" TAB content

Thanx a lot to anybody who could help this happen.

Statistics/Visualisation Board

Hello,

I'm a great fan of calibre, I use it on a daily base. And I had a idea.

I wanted to submite a other new feature for calibre

'Statistics and Visualisation'. or call it otherwise.

I'm doing it on excel for now. It helps me to see on graphics all the kind of information about the books I have.

The main idea is to see on a chart :

- How much books I added each day, week month or year for exemple. (possibility to chose)

- The repartition of the kind of book in my library (SF, Novel,...) in % (for exemple)

- % of the year of publication,
- % of publisher (base on the total of the library)
- % of language (base on the total of the library)

... and so on.

By simply using the reserch tool and a few filters It would be possible to make this idea possible. (Everything would be in background) So the developpment woud'nt be to inovating, by using wath already exist.

It would only be a visual aspect of the books that you have.
By getting depper, you could also be able to costumize your visulatisation aspect, why not ?

I know for sure that those can of information on a chart aspect is used on other digital library. It could be a great thing to included in Calibre

Wath do you think ? Let me know

Many of us do epub conversions from old pulp magazines -- mysteries from the 20s and 30s, SF from the 30s and 40s -- tens of thousands of stories that have never been republished and don't deserve to die. Even with the best software, the the OCR generates many errors that need to be corrected manually. (Yellowed pages, ink bleeding, old typefaces are the main causes.)

This can be done (laboriously) in Sigil with spellcheck...but it could be streamlined to a few seconds with a simple Sigil Calibre Book Editor plug-in. Most of the errors recur with frightening regularity -- things like weU (well) presendy (presently) '/ (,") iie (he) Td ("I'd) bom (born) bum (burn) hps (lips) gendy (gently) and so on.

I, literally, can supply a list of many hundreds of these non-words that recur in nearly every pulp conversion. It we could run a plug-in that would automatically correct *all* of these errors *before* we spellcheck, we could cut proofing time by a huge margin. The plug-in would access a database that provides a list of error-words and the corresponding fix.

I'm sure that we could come up with an initial list of many hundreds of errors...and if the plug-in could access a text file that the user can modify, they can add words for specialized conversions (medical, scientific, etc).

I hope someone thinks this is a good idea -- it sure as heck would help me.

Thanks.

While such a calibre plugin is certainly possible, have you looked at the Search and Replace feature of Calibre's Convert?

It appears to already do exactly what I would program such a plugin to do: save and load lists of regular expressions and replacements from a text file and apply them.

I just ran a rough test of ~2500 replacement (simple) expressions on an epub of ~650k words and it took 1.5 minutes. So that should be feasible.

I would find useful a plugin that moved certain tags (based on user defined rules) to specific custom columns, in an automatic way.

I'm using some regex on book-edit, and I think it would be great to run them using a plugin similar to Pepito for OpenOffice.

This extension:
- search the entire text applying regex and shows occurences found (1st picture)
- permit to apply more than one type of correction to the "error" and a global replace
- has a tab similar to the check spelling one, in which there is a list of words to verify according to one or more regex (2nd picture)
- allow to add new regex and change existing ones

Proper regex have to be written, mine have bugs and some of them are for italian language.

@senhal - I'm assuming the editor's saved S&R feature isn't suitable.

There is a plugin for the Sigil epub editor that may go some way to going what you want, I don't use it so I could be entirely wrong - see ==>> Plugin for tidying ePub files

Thanks for your suggestions
Saves S&R is what I'm using now (see my regex link).
I've tried Sigil plugin, but it is an automatism. OCRs need a deeper check.

I missed seeing that first link

I agree some things shouldn't be automated - eg 'cant' cannot be assumed to always be the contraction 'can't' - it has at least two other meanings without the apostrophe.

I'm fortunate in being able to use Toxaris' epub-tools addon for Word. It allows me to segregate the word list into two groups - 'automate', and 'let me control'.

I think he suggested at one stage he might port some of the features of his Word Addon, such as the S&R and Dialogue Checker, to a Sigil plugin - or it may be wishful thinking on my part that he said that

Icon Plugin

icon plugin. Icons to use with the custom icon column in the "Look and Feel" section of the GUI.

I can't find compatible icons that would work well with the GUI

Need customization for colors. Choose shapes, (hearts, circles, squares, x's, arrows, or check marks).

Python Plugin

I would love to be able to select an English phrase that would translate into python for custom columns, allowing me to build a final line that I could understand in English, but have it be in Python.

I am sure this is a bit out there, but I girl can ask...

I can usually find something here ==>> FindIcons.com, Icon Search Engine

I use 128x128px png images (resize if necessary).

Or create your own with an image creation tool - your OS may include one, Windows Paint, OSX MacPaint etc.

Sweet! I kept thinking I needed to find the icon at 10 x 10 and couldn't. I didn't know I could make them in paint, or use a 128 x 128 to resize.

I have Windows 7 so, I will try to make one.

Thanks!

@mirikbb:

There is already a way to easily correlate different languages of the same book to each other without developing a new plugin for that sole purpose.

[1] Install the 'Multi-Column Search' plugin.

[2] Install the 'View Manager' plugin.

[3] Create a custom column named '#original_title'.

[4] Populate '#original_title' with the original title used by the Author. In your example, it would be 'Airframe', and each of your 3 books would then have 'Airframe' as their '#original_title', with only the English version having a Title of 'Airframe'. The others would obviously be the translated names based on their languages.

[5] Customize 'View Manager' to include '#original_title', and change the sort to be: Author; '#original_title'; Title.

[6] Create a custom column named '#translation_group'.

[7] Using the 'Multi-Column Search' plugin as described in Page 4 of its User Guide, and which is attached below, search using an Inter-Book Query.

[8] For each 'group' returned in the Search Results, add whatever value you would like in the '#translation_group' custom column.

[9] Create a Virtual Library with the stated criterion of: '#translation_group:True'

[10] Whenever you want to only look at books for which you have multiple languages, invoke that Virtual Library.
