tab: I cannot remember if there is any help written for this plugin. I can't check from where I am, but if there is, there will be a link to it in the top left corner of each dialog. And maybe an entry in the menu.
If there isn't any help, then what is in this thread is it. I suggest you start by clicking on all the options and see what they do. Then have a look in the early pages here or ask questions about them. |

I personally installed the goodreads sync button on the main toolbar. When you click on the arrow it brings up a screen. The bottom option was "help" so I clicked on that & it sent me here: file:///C:/Users/Drypen/AppData/Roam...ync%20Help.htm I'd not click my url though since it seems to be attached to me & not generic. |

I am using the plugin and, under proxy, I get this error (see below).
Please note that I had problems also with fetching news but then, after defining the proxy environment variable http_proxy , everything is fine for fetching news but not for goodreads sync. Any ideas? calibre, version 2.0.0 ERROR: Unhandled exception: <b>error</b>:[Errno 10060] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond calibre 2.0 isfrozen: True is64bit: False Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 Windows ('32bit', 'WindowsPE') 32bit process running on 64bit windows ('Windows', '7', '6.1.7601') Python 2.7.8 Windows: ('7', '6.1.7601', 'SP1', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: Goodreads Sync && Kindle Collections && Goodreads Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.config", line 1119, in refresh_shelves_list File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.core", line 226, in get_shelf_list File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.core", line 136, in _request_get File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.httplib2.__init__" , line 1445, in request File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.httplib2.__init__" , line 1197, in _request File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.httplib2.__init__" , line 1171, in _conn_request File "calibre_plugins.goodreads_sync.httplib2.__init__" , line 799, in connect error: [Errno 10060] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond |

The plugin does not make any use of proxies. But, I had a look and it didn't seem to hard to add.
The attached version will use the get the http proxy from calibre. Unfortunately, I cannot test it properly as I do not have web proxy here. I have tested it by setting the environment variable to something that looks like a proxy and getting an error that the proxy didn't exist. Hopefully, that means that if there is a real proxy, it will work. Please test and tell me how it goes. |

@ Davidfor
Dear David, thank you for helping. Unfortunately the same connection error remains also after updating the plugin. mauro |

Exactly the same error? It doesn't surprise me there was still an error, but I would have expected a different error. Are you using the same proxy for browsing? If so, can you get to Goodreads with no problems?

I do get to Goodreads with no problem. I also get to Goodreads when I download books metadata and covers (using the other Goodreads plugin, not Goodreads Sync).

I just saw this plugin and installed it. I'm pretty sure it's not the plugin's fault, but I can't link it to my GoodReads account. When I click on the 'Authorize Plugin with Goodreads' button, I get the following error:
calibre, version 2.41.0 ERROR: Goodreads Failure: The request contacting Goodreads has failed. Please try again. URL: http://www.goodreads.com/oauth/request_token Response Code: 401 Invalid OAuth Request I did some looking into this, even going so far as to register as a developer and get a GoodReads API key, and it could be that the underlying OAuth library isn't working properly. But I would have expected people to be complaining about the plugin if that were true. I can't see what I would have done wrong. I am able to get Goodreads metadata and even link to a Goodreads book using this plugin and the Goodreads metadata plugin, so it just seems like an OAuth problem. |

I have previously authorised the plugin for my Goodreads account, but I tried on a different calibre installation that didn't already have the plugin installed. I didn't get any errors and the Goodread page showed opened and showed an "already authorised" message.
From the message you have, you should try again. If it fails, I need more details. Press the details button of the message box and post the contents from there. Or, run calibre in debug mode and post the full debug log. |

I just installed this plugin for the first time and it seems to work fine. I added 3 books to a shelf and they showed up as expected.

I just installed Calibre on another machine and had no problems. Maybe OS/Browser combo is the problem? My main computer where I can't get authorized is a Mac running OS X 10.10.5. It had Safari as the default browser but I switched to Chrome and that didn't work either. The computer where it just worked is a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10.

Not that it stops me from wanting to know why I was getting this error, but I just copied over the config from my Surface to my Mac so that it would have the user ID and oAuth tokens and that works.

The attached version seems to work. I haven't tried many books, and I don't know if I have tried all the functions. And I have tested without a proxy as well. Can you test this and tell me how it goes. Reports from others using proxies or not would be good as well. Edit: I missed attaching the plugin. As there were several posts after this before I could, I posted it here. Last edited by davidfor; 10-27-2015 at 06:10 AM. |
