A big point of ebooks for me is being able to read what I feel like at the moment. If I wanted to worry about what books I did or didn't have on me, I'd stick with physical books. I've been a B&N customer for a long time, but no SD card slot = No Sale.
Hey Nate - it looks like your site is down. I was getting 500 server errors, now getting 404 page not found errors. EDIT: Back up now. Maybe it was just me? Last edited by Rbneader; 10-21-2015 at 08:26 PM. |

I would like a 6" water/dust proof eink reader, but I would prefer it made by Kobo or Kindle. [I have a feeling Kindle will be next, the Voyage 2. Could be right around the corner!] I am not real fond of the Nook's home screen.

I think it is too little too late. If they had not started hiding the books from the users making them hard to impossible to download, and had kept the sdcard slot like with the NST, and did not have the appearance of perpetually 'swirling the drain', I might have considered it. Waiting for my PW3 to arrive, I hate to be beholden to the '800 pound gorilla', but Amazon looks to me like they will be the last ebook store standing when the dust clears. These other companies are not going to want to keep losing money forever. But hey, if you must read in the bathtub, nook may be your best friend

Hence there is hope that B&N may amend their ways. Hey, they've already backed off from their previous policy of B&N-only storage partitioning. ![]() |

On one site (can't remember which) they said it has a capacitive screen -- not IR like the H2O? If that's true I kind of wish they'd done a flush screen.
On the other hand, everything else sounds fine to me. All the storage I need and I assume I can just go on buying the ebooks elsewhere and loading them onto the Nook via Alf and Calibre and the USB cord. I don't at all need a new ereader but I haven't bought one in about a year now, and there doesn't seem to be a new Voyage (my Voyage has a terrible screen which like an idiot I didn't return) or a new baby Aura on the horizon. There are some very attractive covers, especially the retro daisy one, and both ereader and cover are showing as available in several nearby stores. I'm afraid this can only end one way.......... ![]() ETA: I just read on the Nook forum that it does have a flush screen. I'm definitely getting one. Hmnn. So, it's basically a Kobo Glo HD with water/dust proofing and a capacitive screen. I find myself wondering why their software's a bit more bloated... the Glo HD reportedly has 3.1GB free out of the box, compared to 2.8GB for the Nook Plus.
Still, all things considered, to hit the same price point as the Glo HD is pretty good. I can see this really appealing to Nook fans. (As I'm Canadian, B&N has never been a real option for me.) |
