You can download the Solitaire Collection from the MS store. Problem with no solitaire solved. It's actually better than what comes with Win7.

The collection is a poor replacement (and it is buggy and slow to start up as it phones home first, only to find I did not sign up for the XBOX stuff)

Spider Hints are circular (move here, move back) which may be the reason some deadlocked games don't indicate 'No more moves'

The Weather (start) tile is not kept current. You must run that app to get it to update. Even the App starts up with the wrong local DAY and summary value

Edge is incompatible with some sites that work with IE and Firefox (OK, is it really M$ fault?)

There are plenty of sources for the Win 7, XP Microsoft versions of Solitaire on the internet. Just Google them.

They work fine with Windows 10.

They work fine with Windows 10.
But these have been modified to make them work, so you will need to be careful where you get them from. The link from Apk has a link to get them from and instructions how to modify them if you want to. The Win 8 games are also full screen?!? That would be horrible with a large monitor.

It’s possible to get the old Windows desktop games from Windows 7 back, although Microsoft has made this a hassle. You can’t just drag-and-drop the old .exe files onto your new Windows 10 system because those games check to ensure they’re only running on Windows 7. You’ll need to either modify the .exe files to remove the Windows version check or download modified versions someone has already removed the check from. (No, just setting Solitaire.exe to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode won’t help. Microsoft really doesn’t want you using these old games.)

We previously offered instructions for modifying these games so they would run on Windows 8, and the same process should work on Windows 10. http://www.howtogeek.com/122145/what...-in-windows-8/

You do know that you can copy the games over from even WinXP as well as Windows 7 to Windows 10, right? If you're using the WinXP games, be sure you copy over the cards.dll file into the same directory with the games and you can place those pretty much anywhere you like. If you're using the Windows 7 version of the games, just copy the entire Program Files\Microsoft Games\ directory over to the same path in Windows 10. Create your shortcuts and they all work just fine.

I still prefer the card games they included with WinXP and I'm still using those on Windows 10.

I have never come across the modified ones but the originals work fine in my experience with Windows 10 and there is no reason that I am aware of as to why they should not (just like other XP, Win 7 applications work fine).

However, for example, the old XP version of Solitaire looks dated, but if that is what one wants it is there for the asking.

The link from Apk said the solitaire games and minesweeper had code to check the windows version. Maybe it depends on certain updates to Win 7 changing the exe? Or maybe it was just wrong.

A long time ago in a galaxy far away you used to be able to copy sol.exe into the program files folder and it would run on later versions of Windows or on your work machine if your employer conveniently forgot to include it.

Somewhere around NT or perhaps 2000 they included code to thwart that by having the exe check the windows version. They also added a .dll to reduce having to duplicate code in each game. So no Virginia, you can't just copy the executable from Win7 to Win10 and expect it to work. That's what the hack at http://www.howtogeek.com/122145/what...-in-windows-8/ is about.

Have never had anything to do with "APK" (are you referring to the Android games site?).

If one wants the Windows 7 Games Suite (which includes Solitaire) then there are plenty of installers for it to windows 10 with the whole suite on the internet (look at winaero, for example)

Most people seem to want XP Solitaire (myself included) and if so all one need do is get the sol.exe applet and cards.dll (I think someone has mentioned them already) off the internet (google, but there are even links to them from discussions in Microsoft's very own forums, copy them into a new folder in C:/ Program Files (x86), create a shortcut to the applet (and pin that to the Start Menu if so desired), and that is it.

I don't know what all the sweat is about as there is plenty on the internet about it all and all works fine here for me with Windows 10.

I've done it using WinXP games onto Windows 7 installation, and again using WinXP and Windows 7 games onto Windows 10. And they still all work perfectly on Windows 7 and 10 without doing anything special or downloading any cracked/hacked/modified version of the games. You do need to copy the cards.dll from the WinXP games, and the entire directories of MS Games as I said above, each subdirectory is its own game and includes its own .dll for the Windows 7 games.

There's really nothing special to do at all to get the original games to work, you don't need any modified version.
