No telling what differences there are between the English version of the app and the various other language versions. Amazon is notorious for having different feature sets in their various Kindle apps. For example, the iOS app tends to get features before the Android app. So perhaps the development team for the German version has left out the copy feature. Also it might be a legal thing. Could it possibly have to do with German laws concerning copyright, etc.?

I have actually made inquiries to the US and the German support: the former, some time ago, told me that he'd forward my request to the developers (not knowing that it shouldn't be a problem) the latter told me that the feature is intentionally not there for copyright reasons but was perplexed when I told him that the feature is there (I showed him your screenshot) and simply does not work for me (and never has)... He went on to tell me that he'd forward this to the developers but that he was unable to supply me with any information as to the specifics of why copying was possible for some users but not for others... |

ETA: Since this is a freeware app, if someone has the English/USA version of the DMG (install) file, perhaps you could get that from them. But even that might not be legal in Germany or wherever you reside, so you need to check first. Last edited by jswinden; 10-18-2015 at 01:27 PM. |

Could it be you cannot copy if the eBook has DRM?

Nope, the sample screenshot I posted was with a DRMed book, so no issue copying text within a DRMed book. There might be a flag the publisher can turn on or off though. I still believe the OP's issue is due to the laws in his area as stated by the CS rep. Even if Germany has no such laws in effect, that doesn't mean Amazon is correctly interpreting them. And just perhaps the German language app is used in other countries nearby that do have legal restrictions that Amazon interprets as reason to disable the feature therein. Or maybe the German language app developers just screwed up and accidentally disabled the feature.

Just to back up a bit: what version of the Kindle app for iOS are you running? and what version of iOS? The current version is 4.12, and it requires iOS 8 or later. I am not sure when they added Copy to Clipboard, but it was not always a feature. If you are on iOS 7 or earlier then you would only be able to get an older version of the Kindle app.

Theres no "Copy" in the Australian MacOSX version, either. If you try to copy from the dropdown menu under "Edit" you find that its greyed out, and Command-C doesnt work either. If I screenshotted, it would look like johnnyb's except in English.

Can you perhaps ask Amazon CS about it. The German CS is adamant about it being a copyright issue but they won't comment on the fact that copying text works fine in the iOS and Android apps...
