IMHO the decision was fair, insomuch as the reason given was factually correct.
Immaterial of the reason given for deletion being factually correct, deleting the post was really quite needless was it not? It is worth mods remembering that people can feel quite offended when their posts are deleted/edited especially when it's for a pretty contentious reason.

That said, the mods generally do a great job on this site.

As John F pointed out in post #12, the Forum Guidelines have the following instruction:

Quote:
"Threads have a life of their own and may stray in all sorts of directions. However, if the original poster, or a moderator, requests that a thread stay on topic then please respect their wishes. You could start a thread of your own about the new topic, if you want. If a thread moves to parallel discussion of two separate topics then you may also request a moderator to move posts related to a new topic to their own thread with the "Report Posts" function."
Although as I said, I am not so sure I necessarily agree with pdurrant about the need to exclude such posts.

Nevertheless, I don't believe anyone has a leg to stand on, if they claim to be insulted that their ignoring of the OP's request and moderator warning (multiple, in fact) was deleted.

Fair enough that, as you say, there were warnings posted but the post that was deleted was at least partly on topic from what I remember. I think it was the speculation part that got it pulled, but that's where it gets contentious IMHO. And when it's not an obvious flouting of forum rules, its the curtailing of discussion that people might feel a little offended by.

I can't comment on the OP question as I'm not sure there is any formal mechanism to appeal a moderators decision. You can probably ask other moderators or Mr Turic to review it and if they do they do and if they don't they don't.

However, do not worry about it as I have been assured on many previous occasions that there is absolutely no bias or inappropriate moderation regardless of how it looks. So rest assured your concerns are unfounded.

There is a thread going on where the moderators are deleted all off-topic posts. It was started by a moderator. Now, what if a non-moderator wants to start a thread and make sure it's kept on topic? How do we go about getting off-topic messages deleted in a timely manner?
