I've read the fine print a few times, and I still can't figure out how anyone could have approved the wording they settled on.

From Kobo:

"NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Open only to legal residents of Canada (excluding Quebec), United States of America and the United Kingdom who have reached the age of majority in their respective jurisdiction at the time of entry. Entry is valid only for Kobo account holders who enter the Share the Love Contest ("Contest") between October 12, 2015 12:00AM EST and November 22, 2015 by 11:59PM EST ("Contest Period"). Entrants may earn up to three (3) ballots for each of the six (6) weeks of the Contest Period, for a maximum of 18 ballots. Each entry must consist of either a photo and/or written submission answering the weekly question. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received. Must correctly answer a skill-testing question in order to be declared a winner of the daily, weekly and grand prizes. Incomplete or illegible submissions will not be accepted. There will be a total of 42 prizes. 9 Kobo Aura H2O eReaders (approximate value $179.99 (CAD/USD) and ?139.99 each); 9 Kobo Glo HD eReaders (approximate value $139.99 (CAD/USD) and ?109.99 each); 20,000 Kobo Super Points (9 total) (approximately $50 (CAD/USD) and ?25); $100 CAD/USD or ?100 Kobo Account Credits (9 total) will be given in the winner's local currency. Weekly prizes (5 total) of $1,000 CAD/USD or ?1,000 cash will be given in the winner's local currency in the form of a Visa Card or Money Order. One (1) Grand Prize trip for two (2) to winner's choice of three (3) locations: South America, Europe or the South Seas; approximate value is CAD $11,000 - $13,800. Eligibility, booking and travel dates are subject to conditions of the prize. Please see full terms and conditions here: https://sharethelove.kobo.com/rules/"

I don't know whether they intended to do another pass at editing, or what. I assume the question marks are supposed to mean something.

Oddly enough, I found this part strange:

1) Grand Prize trip for two (2) to winner's choice of three (3) locations: South America, Europe or the South Seas; approximate value is CAD $11,000 - $13,800.

South America? That covers a large area. A REALLY large area. Europe??? Which part? Any old country? Of my choice...or, gulp, theirs? South Seas? On the Sea itself or an island? Or a particular resort or just air drop me in?

Probably a non-$ currency symbol, like the euro or GBP.

I got an email today from someone saying that they area "Project Coordinator at Ariad Communications, a marketing partner with Kobo" and telling me that I've won an ereader in the last contest. Is this the way that they usually notify people? I'm supposed to reply to them, answering a "skill testing question" (basic math). It just seems like an odd way to handle things, and I don't want to get caught up in some scam.
If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

People in the past have reported being contacted by an outside company when winning. Can't say if it was the same company or not.

The skill question is completely normal for Canadian contests and the rules say it will be in there. I hope you really won and congrats!!!

I got the same email and replied. Even if it was a scam, all they got was my shipping address and phone number. Also they know that I am capable of basic math!

Thanks for the feedback, AnemicOak, BearMountainBooks, and Kim W. I never win contests, so it seems unbelievable. Guess I'll respond and take it from there.

Would be curious to hear from anyone who made it all the way through the latest Kobo Insider's survey, which seems to be focused on pricing, if there's anything in there that seems like it would be useful to give feedback on. I got partway through but bailed when they were asking how much I'd be willing to pay for all the different genres relative to all the other genres. It was far too specific feedback based on no meaningful criteria, and generally felt more like a "exactly how much would you be willing to put up with" rather than "how can we make our pricing better/more competitive."

I made it all the way through. It was various ways of talking pricing and asking if Kobo books were perceived as more expensive than other places. I thought it was too long. The most interesting question for me was whether I always shop for the lowest price and when I find it do I buy there (not necessarily. I was able to write in that if the prices were reasonably close, and I had a gift card, I'd use the gift card). The section on buying with coupons was good and they did ask if I had a library card (yes and at some point I wrote in that I used it for most of the popular/expensive books and that I no longer buy those anywhere).

I did complete the survey [no code or $ given for those of you who were wondering like me!].
I found once you got passed the specific genre questions it was more focused on overall pricing of ebooks vs paperbacks, store preferences, etc.

I'm actually glad I completed it because as I stated recently, the coupon/codes are the ONLY reason I shop at Kobo at all. The format/download issues associated with Kobo is a huge detriment IMO. I would rather avoid any hassle and would expect to do so paying regular [higher] prices for books [ie Amazon, which would be my go-to retailer for price, selection and ease of use.]

I agree, they need to give coupons for those completing the survey (or at least a chance to win a free book) and they did have questions about the ease of use of their store.
