Perhaps I will finally install it in a virtual machine on this notebook. It came with Windows 8, but after a two week struggle with new UI I have upgraded it to Mint Linux. Looks like I will finally be able to make use of the Windows license I have been forced to pay for. Advertisement in a start menu, in the form of "suggested apps" is not such a good news, I am afraid. http://tech.slashdot.org/story/15/10...to-display-ads At the moment it is only in the "Insider" version of Windows 10. |

And I shrunk the native Win10 menu to the absolute minimum:no room for tiles or ads. |

I wonder if it was an intentional clcikbait by Slashdot editors. I am re-reading long-winded Slashdot discussion and it looks like this *is* an option. Off by default for some "insirders" and On for others. We shall see the fallout ;-) |

My Win7 desktop has recently suffered updates which blew up my display settings. It will no longer detect my second monitor (HDMI) and reset my screen resolution to what it thought was "optimal", not taking into account my ancient eyeballs.
The first time it happened rolling back updates fixed it. This time I was able to reset the resolution, but haven't been able to get the second monitor working in spite of rolling back the drivers. So my cynicism kicked in and caused me to wonder if it was intentional on M$'s part to "encourage" me to upgrade. |

"My Win7 desktop has recently suffered updates which blew up my display settings. "
Yes, I just updated my Win7 and now the macs in the household either can't keep connected or connect at all. Arg! I hate, hate, hate anything that looks like or feels like Windows 8. Honestly thinking of dumping my windows machine and going Mac with a network hard drive box. If I didn't have a $3000 scanner that only works on PC, I would have done it years ago. My husband's 27" imac is soooooo nice! Windows 10. I don't know. Even if it is free I just don't think I want to go there, ever. |

My experience with Win 10 is (an others say the same) is excellent. It handles the network and connecting with my other machines much better than win7 did. I skipped win8 from the beginning, it just had too many issues.

Yes, mine too with a couple of exceptions. As discussed before, it's not Win10 that was hexing my WiFi but rather HyperV, once I disabled that the WiFi was fine.
The other issue, and I may never forgive M$, is they dropped SOLITAIRE!!! (actually they did it in Win8) ![]() ![]() ![]() That was the whole reason I was keeping Win7 on my desktop. |
