Netflix raising US price for most popular video plan by $1

Netflix is raising the price of its Internet video service by $1 for new customers in the U.S., Canada and some Latin America countries to help cover its escalating costs for shows such as “House of Cards” and other original programming.

The new price of $10 per month for Netflix’s standard plan — its most popular — marks the second time in 17 months that Los Gatos, California, company has boosted its U.S. rates by $1. The trend reflects the financial pressure that Netflix is facing as it competes against Amazon.com, HBO and other services for the rights to TV series and movies that will expand its audience.

Subscribers who have been with Netflix since May 2014 will still pay $8 per month under a two-year rate freeze adopted when the company last raised its U.S. prices by $1. Customers who signed up since the last price increase will pay $9 per month until October 2016.

I want a 10" tablet for studying and hubby needs a new laptop for Korea. We could also use a small TV for the bedroom and a Roku. I like to get him a new Cell phone and 7" tablet too.

IF you lived close to me I would sell you a 19" Sanyo $50
Walmart has 19" TV for $98 not sure of the brand.

Netflix's price increases probably have less to do with costs of their own shows and more to do with the ever-increasing licensing costs for other shows. One of the big reasons Netflix moved to producing their own stuff was to avoid the ratchet that the big movie/TV companies have been applying continuously. Basically once Netflix became successful, Hollywood decided they needed to bleed it to death. Which is normal for them (this is why Hulu sucks so badly nowadays too).

I think Hollywood believes we should all be happy to pay $90 a month for something like Netflix with 99% of the money going to Hollywood.

Amazon's price increase was probably less about the content and the fact that shipping has gone up since they first introduced it. The prices for TV/movies didn't help any however.

Netflix vs Amazon Prime is ALL about the Math! Nothing else. Right now I get Amazon Prime Free cause I purchased a Phone. So since Netflix Now gives me their streaming for $7.99 till May I still paying that bill as well. Looks like in May I be Paying a year for Prime at $104 price! Instead of the Year of Netflix at $120 As I said its about the Math. So far FYI I Yet to order anything for the Free Shipping ...seems everything I order I have to pay shipping Inc my PW2 So that just BS to me.

Thanks. Some goods deals, but they were all USB 3.0. I think I'm going for internal hard drives for my firewire enclosures.

I had signed up for 3 magazines. For some reason I thought that I had read that it wasn't auto-renew. But, I checked under my "orders" and, sure enough, the auto-renew status was "active." I turned that off on all three.
