The Darwin Elevator (The Dire Earth Cycle Book 1)
by Jason M. Hough is $0.99 at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Darwin-Elevato...arwin+elevator Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...arwin-elevator Below is the blurb: In the mid-23rd century, Darwin, Australia, stands as the last human city on Earth. The world has succumbed to an alien plague, with most of the population transformed into mindless, savage creatures. The planet’s refugees flock to Darwin, where a space elevator—created by the architects of this apocalypse, the Builders—emits a plague-suppressing aura. Skyler Luiken has a rare immunity to the plague. Backed by an international crew of fellow “immunes,” he leads missions into the dangerous wasteland beyond the aura’s edge to find the resources Darwin needs to stave off collapse. But when the Elevator starts to malfunction, Skyler is tapped—along with the brilliant scientist, Dr. Tania Sharma—to solve the mystery of the failing alien technology and save the ragged remnants of humanity. |

Coraline
by Neil Gaiman is $1.99 at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Coraline-Neil-...words=Coraline Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/ebook/coraline-2 Below is the blurb: The day after they moved in, Coraline went exploring.... In Coraline's family's new flat are twenty-one windows and fourteen doors. Thirteen of the doors open and close. The fourteenth is locked, and on the other side is only a brick wall, until the day Coraline unlocks the door to find a passage to another flat in another house just like her own. Only it's different. At first, things seem marvelous in the other flat. The food is better. The toy box is filled with wind-up angels that flutter around the bedroom, books whose pictures writhe and crawl and shimmer, little dinosaur skulls that chatter their teeth. But there's another mother, and another father, and they want Coraline to stay with them and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let her go. Other children are trapped there as well, lost souls behind the mirrors. Coraline is their only hope of rescue. She will have to fight with all her wits and all the tools she can find if she is to save the lost children, her ordinary life, and herself. Critically acclaimed and award-winning author Neil Gaiman will delight readers with his first novel for all ages. |

Bargain @ $2.99 each just through the long weekend (therefore, expiring today on Oct 12th) from the Jabberwocky Literary Agency according to their blogpost, doing backlist reprints for their clients (couponable @ Kobo; rest of the books in the assorted series are $8.99, which I assume is their regular price; prices don't seem to be matched elsewhere, at least not in Canada, but YMMV).
Sing the Four Quarters by Tanya Huff (ISFDB, Wikipedia), 1st in her Quarters series of elemental high fantasy, originally out from DAW in 1994. I have these in paperback and rather liked them, and will be snapping this one up shortly. Sweet and Deadly by Charlaine Harris (ISFDB, Wikipedia), author of the popular Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasy series which was adapted into HBO's True Blood. This one is actually some sort of standalone non-sfnal Southern Gothic-ish amateur sleuth mystery originally out from Houghton Mifflin in 1980, but I figure she probably has cross-genre fans here that might be interested. The Dragons of Dorcastle by Jack Campbell aka John G. Hemry (ISFDB, Wikipedia), 1st in his Pillars of Reality steampunk fantasy series, which is apparently newly-written. The second in Mary Stewart's Arthurian series - The Hollow Hills - is £0.99 at Amazon UK today. I don't know why - it doesn't seem to be a daily or monthly deal. But I've snapped it up!

There's an Autumn Sale on. It's part of that. It also includes all sorts of Jack Campbell books and some other stuff I've forgotten.
It's a shame I was being good and didn't pick up the first one when it was a daily deal not long ago. Edit: The sale ends on the 9th November. |
