Searching on Osprey Publishing at Kobo kicks out tons of results at this price point, including these books. The truly frugal might want to buy there, going through ebates.com and garnering super points!

Your work motivated me to do a little bit more of my own. Come to find out, there are many more O.P. titles at the $1.99 price point at Amazon, also. More unfinished homework on my part. ha At first I thought that these might be priced at $1.99 regularly, but I did a spot check on one and found that it has been marked down from $8.69. I had to dig through all of the lower-priced O.P. titles ($1.49--lots of them, from an O.P. series, don't know yet if those are markdown prices or not) to get to the $1.99 ones. Unfortunately, I haven't learned yet how to do a search at Amazon for a specific price or price range (note to self: when I get time, I've got to go back and read up on how to do that!). Maybe some kind soul will post the URL for such a search. As a sidebar . . . . It's now 70 years since the end of World War II, but interest in it does not seem to be slowing down. Anecdotal evidence, in fact, suggests just the opposite. New websites seem to be popping up all of the time, and new books continue to be written and published. The psychoanalyst in me (strictly as a hobby. ha) would love to know why. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 10-06-2015 at 08:14 PM. |

It doesn't explain my interest. I had no relatives "close enough to count" who were in WW2 (or Korea, or Vietnam for that matter. And, no, they weren't draft dodgers. ha). I think that there was a great-great-great uncle or two in WW1. It seems like there are a lot of people who do have the interest because of what you suggested, however. That is probably the main reason for some people, though. I know that if my grandfather had been in WW2 that it would have sharpened my interest considerably from what it already is. |

Creator/Writer/Producer Sherwood Schwartz Writes about Gilligan's Island.
And the Kindle ebook is marked down to $3.99 from a regular digital price of $9.99!
I don't know if Mobilereaders from outside of the U.S. are familiar with the mid-1960's sitcom Gilligan's Island. It was very popular in the States. CBS took a lot of flack from the lamestream media about it, though, because of its silliness. Maybe that's one reason that it had a run of only 3 seasons. America was up to its eyeballs in the Vietnam War at the time. In my humble opinion, this silly sitcom was just the thing that we needed to take our minds away, if just briefly, from the insanity and carnage over there. Inside Gilligan's Island. By Sherwood Schwartz. Rated 4.2 stars, from 20 reviews at the present moment. Print list price $19.99; digital list price $9.99; Kindle price $3.99. McFarland, publisher. 342 pages. http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Gilliga...gan%27s+Island. Book Description While every new TV series has to face some problems, no show had to overcome greater obstacles than Gilligan's Island. In spite of that, no series has achieved greater success, as measured by the fact that Gilligan's Island has given rise to three TV movies, two animated series, and is the most rerun program in the entire history of television. Now, Sherwood Schwartz, creator, writer, and producer of Gilligan's Island, tells the life story of the show: from the labor pains of scripting, casting, and production to its golden years of afternoon reruns. Fascinating history that could be known only by the show's creator is enhanced by wonderful photos, sketches, and other illustrations from the author's personal collection, as well as the guest forewords by all seven "Castaways." An appendix lists plots, writers and directors for every episode. All this behind-the-scenes information makes the book a special treat, not only for fans, but for anyone interested in an inside look at the television industry. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?url=searc...=charles+river http://www.amazon.ca/s/?url=search-a...=charles+river Just one freebie from Charles River Editors at present John Nash, Jr.: The Life and Legacy of One of America's Most Influential Mathematicians In 2001, the critically acclaimed film A Beautiful Mind introduced millions to John Nash, Jr., one of America's most important 20th century mathematicians, nearly 50 years after he had won a Nobel prize for his work. Naturally, most viewers of the movie will remember a prodigy suffering from paranoid schizophrenia while overlooking how the man's innovative studies and works had a major influence on everything from economics to biology, cryptography, artificial intelligence, and political philosophy. The "Nash equilibrium," a theory he developed when he was still a student in his 20s, has also affected games, military doctrine, and computing. |

I had an Uncle in WWII. He served on the USS Bogue (CVE-9). The ship received a Presidential Unit Citation and three battle stars for her World War II service. I had a cousin on the USS Hornet when it was sunk. He survived the sinking. My father was in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.
My best friends father commanded the USS Frankford (DD-497) in WWII. He won two Silver Stars. He was awarded one for taking his ship in as close as he could to the beach at Normandy and shelling enemy artillery that had the Allied Armed Forces pined on the beach. http://valor.militarytimes.com/recip...ipientid=55128 The above link has the information on his awards. I grew up surrounded by people who had fought in WW2. My father and his older brother enlisted the Royal Artillery in Feb 1940. Their convoy arrived in Liverpool on April 25,1940. They fought in the North African and Italian campaigns; Dad's brother was killed at Monte Cassino in the winter of 1945. My father-in-law's sister was killed when the ferry SS Caribou was torpedoed in Cabot Strait by U-69 in April 1942. I guess that's why I've always been interested in that war.

A couple of WWII books, reduced on Amazon UK at least:
A Bridge Too Far by Cornelius Ryan. 99p (was £6.99), and if you buy the Kindle book, you can get the audio book for an extra 99p (normally £16.35). It's probably 20 years since I read this, but as I recall, it's a very readable account of Operation Market Garden. Crete: The Battle and the Resistance by Antony Beevor. 99p (was £6.99) I've never read this one, but Antony Beevor is an excellent author, and I'd be interested to learn more about the battle of Crete, so it's going on my to-read list. |
