Change CAse for ToC?
Hi there,
I know how to create and/or edit a ToC, but I would like to be able to select the case (Upper/Lower/Swap/Title/Capitalize) for the entries. Is there a way to edit the ToC either globally (select all/right-click/select case) or individually (double-click/right-click/select case)? Thanks for your help ![]() |

AFAIK, you can only change all to title case (with right-click, or select all/right-click). It doesn't give any other options, but generally, a TOC goes for titles, so...

OK, great! Thanks! I hadn't even noticed that before!
![]() I have just tried this on an "ALL CAPS" ToC and I was able to change it to "Title Case". I also found out that I should expand the ToC beforehand to ensure the indented entries were also changed! Thanks again ![]() |

Can you tell me specifically where you do this? I had an ePub that all items in the TOC is all caps. Like Chapter 1 - THE WIND BLOWS WEST. Since the book has 20 chapters, editing each one line by line and re-typing them grows old. I desire it to look like Chapter 1 - The Wind Blows West.
I tried the feature in Calibre, under "TOC editor," under "Edit the TOC," right clicked on the first chapter for example, choose "Change all selected items to title case." Nothing happens. I ended up re-typing each line Title Case. I know I will run into this again and am hoping there is an easier method. This looks like a great option to have as mentioned above. Thank you! |

Use search/replace
I think you can accomplish this with the search/replace function. First select the toc.ncx file, then use the following settings in search/replace.
If the image didn't work, then use these settings in the search/replace panel. Find: <text>(.*?)</text> Function: Title-case text (ignore tags) [select this from the drop arrow] Mode: Regex-Function --- Current File That should change all of the labels in your TOC to Title-case. |

Or you can choose Edit TOC, do select all (ctrl+A), then right click, and choose 'Change all selected items to title case'. I have the Edit TOC button on my toolbar, but otherwise it would be in the Tools menu. See image, although that is a bad example that doesn't need to change, but it will give you an idea...
If only a few need to be changed, then just right click on each on as needed to change. Hope this helps! |

Thank you both. Yes, it does look like a bug as you tried the same thing I was referring to above. It would be a great feature to have fixed.

Using the search/replace method you can choose from various functions to accomplish (Upper/Lower/Swap/Title/Capitalize). Calibre has these option built into the regex-function section.

I did a test to check, because yesterday, right-click didn't work.
Not sure if that's wanted behavior or a bug or oversight. |

Kovids reason is sound
If you still want to bulk re-case your text, First LOWER everything then do your Mixed Case change Remember to fix any multiple Initials or acronyms (GIGO ![]() |

Thank You. Key is for everything to be in one entire state. IE., All caps and then it will work. Agreed, makes sense.
