Your first link has a graph showing a preference for "an historic" up until the 1970s in British English writing.

And in spoken (British) English, it's a lot easier to say as "an historic" instead of "a historic".

As a native British English speaker I do not endorse the hypercorrective use of "an" in this context.

As I said before, it only makes sense if you don't pronounce the H, which I do.

I think most style guides agree that it's wrong.

While I intend to download a preview of the sequel (or prequel or whatever it is), Go Set a Watchman, I doubt after some of the reviews I've read that I'll actually read it. It would hurt too much to read that she transformed Atticus into a bigot. (Did she really do that?)
Actually, she wrote Go Set a Watchman first, and the publisher(s) told her to rework it. When she did, Atticus wound up as a much more sympathetic character. I have no interest in reading the original draft -- the final book is simply THAT good!

I finished Lust Is No Lady and then I borrowed another freebie from the Amazon lending library,
The Fat Death
(Ed Noon #15) by Michael Avallone, again quite short and very enjoyable. I'm up to 21% of Veiled and still at 15% in Away With The Fairies.

Today was the release of The Aeronaut's Windlass, the first book in a new steampunk series called The Cinder Spires by Jim Butcher! I'm transfixed with it and have already read almost half of it.

Just finished reading 14 by Peter Clines. I only bought this book because of recommendations here, and honestly wasn't expecting much, but it sucked me in completely. What worked about the book is the characters as much as the premise. Four solid stars, edging to a fifth.

I know that sometimes Amazon limits or alters your results by your geographic location, even if you're looking at a store in a different country; that's why there can be weird prices for books that in fact aren't available at all. However, I don't know the rhyme or reason for it; perhaps someone else does.

Here's the link to the Alan Grofield Kindle books in the US store, but I have no idea what you'll see when you click on it.

Fortunately, as you say, Kobo is willing to look the other way on these things!

Finished Dragon Keeper and now halfway through Dragon Haven. I seem to recall some saying that this is the least popular of Robin Hobb's series', and I have to admit, particularly in the first book, the writing isn't what I'd call spectacular.

With that said, her world-building is exemplary, and I see her writing improving through the second book.

I agree, this is the last great book I read. The audible book (that I think was like $5 add on to my Kindle book) was excellently done.

It is a good one. I finished the audiobook a couple of days ago. Two thumbs WAY up.

Wow. What an excellent contemporary magical London series. Time: the present. Location: London. Magic: Exists. But has been fading for years, and is covered up.

Splendid stuff. It's as impossible as Harry Potter, but more believable, if you see what I mean.

I'm looking forward to the next one, but I won't binge on them. I am glad I got the lot (so far) though.

Next up: It's Up To Charlie Hardin by Dean Ing. Boy's childhood adventures so far. I assume that something more SF-y is going to happen at some point.
