As a business owner, I'd get rid of customers who cost me money, too. I do, in fact. Matt
I would hope that as a business owner you at least look at why a customer is returning items and if it's a certain type of product take a long hard look at what you are selling.

The letters are polite but they contain a hostile threat and blatant lies. No one is looking at my account, nobody is at all interested in 'understanding' my returns. The letters are simply a warning and a threat. If that is how you would treat your customers then I would not shop with you.

And as for Amazon it's not as simple as you like to point out. They control my access to thousands of pounds of digital purchases that they could remove at a whim and I can not even appeal their decsison. Do you really think I would be so stupid as to risk that with returning items I ordered and wanted without just cause?

I haven't dismissed what you've said, nor anyone else on this thread. Yes I do need to stop shopping with Amazon, their quality control is crap as we have all seen with the devices. That is something I can control, its my past purchases that are the issue. That has always been the issue.

The quotes below, all from "Kindle Voyage first impressions" are just food for thought. Could be the reason why Amazon took offence.

I gave up with the PW2 when it first came out, I had two and sent them both back, ended up getting one in May this year. Sounds like bad lots always come at launch dates. If mine isn't any good it will go back and I'll order a PW2 wifi.

I'm confused are you saying that someone from Amazon would read my posts on Mobileread?

If you are referring to my purchase of a Voyage which I bought last November a few months after my Kobo H20 it came from Argos not Amazon and was perfect.

The Paperwhite 2 came out in September 2013 (I think) we have one, bought in May 2014.

On launch I ordered one for myself, it had a yellow screen so I returned it for a replacement, the replacement was worse so I settled for a refund. I then bought one in May 2014 from Amazon, it was fine. In September 2014 I ordered one for my husband, (we share an Amazon account) he didn't like the screen so it went back, he had mine instead. I moved to the Kobo at that time until I bought my Voyage in November.

I defy anyone to say I'm too fussy with ereaders when people on this forum have sent back five or six before they have a decent screen.

I think she's referring to the fact that from your own words, it could be assumed that you're simply ordering similar things you're interested in (wherever you happen to order them from), getting them in your hands, comparing, culling (all in the comfort of your home), and then returning the ones you decided against.

Not everyone sees that as "normal" or "OK."

Emails, and threats, and frustration, and justification aside ... your return rate seems extremely high. There's no way around that fact. That "others are doing it" does not change that.

I really don't have words to reply to that comment. It's more than insulting.

I think tbh I'm more concerned that she felt it necessary to hunt for specific posts I've made on mobileread. I've never hidden how I feel about ereaders. If the screen isn't good enough then I'm not buying, a lot of people on this forum feel the same way and have gone to more extremes than me.

Anyone who reads this thread can make up their own minds, I'm not asking for anything here I simply started by asking for advice. Most people who have commented have been very kind and for those posters I am grateful.

Yes, you are too fussy.
The vast majority of Kindle owners keep their first Kindle.
Yes, there *are* people that are even fussier than you and think it is OK to exchange something five times and are even bragging about it on Mobileread.

In fairness to Josie, there were a lot of problems with the earlier Kindle Paperwhites for some of us. I was on those threads a lot as I was someone who had issues and I never saw any bragging going on. Why would someone brag over such a thing? We were all quite frustrated at not being able to get one without issues.

This is true. I myself returned quite a few. Five, I believe. Maybe I didn't get flagged for returns because I was working with one particular "kindle specialist"? He contacted me after I left a negative review on Amazon and tried to help me sort the issue. He was the one continually asking me to try another one after each had the same problem. He also continued to call me back after each new device was received. So maybe that was the difference in my case?

I know some of you side with Amazon, but I personally don't like the way Amazon handles this issue. How they won't allow a person who receives this letter to talk to anyone about it. Of course Amazon has a right to decide what they consider too many returns, but shutting a person out from discussing any details is an odd (and wrong) way to handle it, imo.

Maybe this IS the difference. Josie, did you contact customer care about any of the returns, or did you just use the automated system on the website?

I would think it also makes a difference on whether you are returning something because it's broken or defective, versus returning it because you didn't like it or it didn't fit.

If you continue buying from Amazon it would probably be best to not buy the things that you tend to return a lot. I know I won't buy clothes or shoes on Amazon because there's just no way of knowing if I'd like it or not without trying it on first.

By the way, I took a look at my purchases & returns in the last year to give you a comparison to your returns. I've had 95 orders, and 4 returns. All of the returns were because of defects. HTH.

Josie, when you returned items that were defective, did you choose defective as a reason to return? I checked my return report and most were marked as defective. I would hope that when looking at your rate of returns they would take that into account. I certainly don't agree with others that said you shouldn't have bought cheap cases that are more likely to be defective. In the future it looks like you won't be able to buy them anymore though. No one should feel like they can't return defective items.

A lot of clothing I've seen on Amazon is marked as "Free returns". I wonder if returns of these items are counted as highly in the return rate. It is difficult to buy clothing without trying it on first, which is why I think that they offer free returns.

Looking over the comments i think its best to chuck josie in the nearest river and she if she floats yes? This is becoming a bit of a witchhunt. People come here for support, information and a good chinwag about books don't they? not to be persecuted.

If you love Amazon that's ok but don't hurl the bible according to bezos at someone because they've had a problem. Shit i remember why i drifted off the forum now.

Yes I did mark them as defective and some were via customer services and others via the form.

Nobody is looking at the reasons for the returns if they where then I wouldn't have the letter in the first place.

I'll buy my cases from eBay now, which tbh is where the last few have come from anyway.
