I've read all 5. They're a good fun read. Not too heavy, but not light and frothy either. Wonderfully British in places too.

At this price they're well worth it.

Well, I've read the sampler for the first one, and I liked that, so I've splashed out on the set. Two at £0.99 and three at £1.99 comes to £1.59 per book, which is a very good price.

I shall have to be very restrained in October.

Forge of Darkness (The Kharkanas Trilogy Book 1)
by Steven Erikson

is $2.99 at

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...d_i=1000677541

Kobo: https://store.kobobooks.com/en-us/eb...ge-of-darkness

Below is the blurb:
Now is the time to tell the story of an ancient realm, a tragic tale that sets the stage for all the tales yet to come and all those already told...

It's a conflicted time in Kurald Galain, the realm of Darkness, where Mother Dark reigns. But this ancient land was once home to many a power. and even death is not quite eternal. The commoners' great hero, Vatha Urusander, is being promoted by his followers to take Mother Dark's hand in marriage, but her Consort, Lord Draconus, stands in the way of such ambitions. The impending clash sends fissures throughout the realm, and as the rumors of civil war burn through the masses, an ancient power emerges from the long dead seas. Caught in the middle of it all are the First Sons of Darkness, Anomander, Andarist, and Silchas Ruin of the Purake Hold...

Steven Erikson entered the pantheon of great fantasy writers with his debut Gardens of the Moon. Now he returns with the first novel in a trilogy that takes place millennia before the events of the Malazan Book of the Fallen and introduces readers to Kurald Galain, the warren of Darkness. It is the epic story of a realm whose fate plays a crucial role in shaping the world of the Malazan Empire.

Well it is $19.98 if you check from Denmark.
Kobo won't sell it to Denmark.

More Happy Than Not
by Adam Silvera

is currently $1.99 at

Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Kobo
Google Play
and probably elsewhere.

Quote:
In his twisty, gritty, profoundly moving debut--called "mandatory reading" by the New York Times--Adam Silvera brings to life a charged, dangerous near-future summer in the Bronx.

In the months after his father's suicide, it's been tough for 16-year-old Aaron Soto to find happiness again--but he's still gunning for it. With the support of his girlfriend Genevieve and his overworked mom, he's slowly remembering what that might feel like. But grief and the smile-shaped scar on his wrist prevent him from forgetting completely.

When Genevieve leaves for a couple of weeks, Aaron spends all his time hanging out with this new guy, Thomas. Aaron's crew notices, and they're not exactly thrilled. But Aaron can't deny the happiness Thomas brings or how Thomas makes him feel safe from himself, despite the tensions their friendship is stirring with his girlfriend and friends. Since Aaron can't stay away from Thomas or turn off his newfound feelings for him, he considers turning to the Leteo Institute's revolutionary memory-alteration procedure to straighten himself out, even if it means forgetting who he truly is.

Why does happiness have to be so hard?
Personal Note: This is one of the best books I've read in years. Do not let the "YA" label put you off. It's pretty dark for "YA" and the themes of memory, loss, choice, and selfhood may resonate even more with older readers. If you are looking for hard-core SF, however, you should know that the SF element is very slight.

A very special, incredibly moving book, it comes with my highest possible recommendation!

Why would SF label put anyone off in a Science Fiction and Fantasy bargain thread???

And vice-versa, I read very little fantasy myself. Not much of it appeals to me.

So not bad at all to warn people, helps them better decide if the book is something they'd like or not. In the same vein, I'll include non-spoiler notes about a book/short story's contents if I think they may bother some people.

From the description it sounds like the drivel quality message fiction with virtually no SF in it that is winning Hugo awards nowadays.
So, probably worth the warning as I suspect we are in marmite territory here.

And you could not be more wrong...

Silly me. Thinking that people here might actually appreciate a bargain on a really good book, as opposed to the crap that frequently gets discounted. I won't make that mistake again.

They must never know that inside his unchanging house, he met and conversed with a host of unimaginable friends from the farthest stars.

More than a hundred years before, an alien being named Ulysses had recruited Enoch as the keeper of Earth's only galactic transfer station. Now Enoch studied the progress of Earth as he tended the tanks where the aliens appeared, and the charts he made indicated that his world was doomed to destruction. His alien friends could only offer help that seemed worse than the dreaded disaster.

Then he discovered the horror that lived across the galaxy . .

I've a whole load of Simak on my shelves but somehow have never managed to read this one, which many regard as his best novel, so I was happy to see it go on sale.
It is my favorite novel by Simak.

Synopsis
Cas Russell is good at math. Scary good.

The vector calculus blazing through her head lets her smash through armed men twice her size and dodge every bullet in a gunfight. She can take any job for the right price and shoot anyone who gets in her way.

As far as she knows, she’s the only person around with a superpower . . . but then Cas discovers someone with a power even more dangerous than her own. Someone who can reach directly into people’s minds and twist their brains into Moebius strips. Someone intent on becoming the world’s puppet master.

Someone who’s already warped Cas’s thoughts once before, with her none the wiser.

Cas should run. Going up against a psychic with a god complex isn’t exactly a rational move, and saving the world from a power-hungry telepath isn’t her responsibility. But she isn’t about to let anyone get away with violating her brain — and besides, she’s got a small arsenal and some deadly mathematics on her side. There’s only one problem . . .

She doesn’t know which of her thoughts are her own anymore.
