Be aware of a new setting called "Wifi Assist" which will automatically use mobile data if your wifi connection is even slightly dodgy. I've turned it off.

I ran into a big issue a couple of days ago. At about midnight my WiFi modem bit the dust. The next morning I tried to hook up my iPhone 6+ as a hotspot to my MacBook Pro. No luck at all. I tried hooking up via WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB cable. My WiFi system has separate modem and router units, so the router was still working, just the modem was out. I had no luck at all. I tried establishing a hotspot with my iPad Mini Retina and again no luck. This worked fine under iOS 8, but no luck at all under iOS 9. I see a lot of complaints on the web about this issue, so hopefully Apple will get the issue resolved. I had cellular connectivity to the internet via my iPhone 6+, but I really hate surfing on such a little device. I should have been able to quickly and easily connect via hotspot to my computer.

One more issue I'm having with iOS 9 is that rotating the iPhone 6+ does not always cause the screen to rotate when it should, or the screen sticks for a long time then finally rotates. Sometimes I have to rotate the screen back and forth several times before rotation occurs. Other times the screen rotates at the slightest movement, as in way before it should as it hasn't been tilted enough to warrant a rotation. It could be the accelerometer is wacky, but I didn't notice this odd behavior until I installed iOS 9.

I just used my iPhone 6 with iOS 9.0.2 as a hotspot this morning for my iPad 2 and had no problem with it. Windows computer is connecting just fine as well. I tried it right now just to verify that it would work.

Cool! I just tried it after reading your comment and upgrading to 9.0.2. Hotspot connections work again! I guess they fixed the FW glitch in this update. I easily and quickly connected to my iPhone 6+ hotspot with my MacBook Pro and my iPad Mini Retina. It always takes Apple a few updates to get the bugs worked out. Glad they are working on squashing the bugs. Last edited by jswinden; 10-05-2015 at 10:16 AM. |

I've been waiting to update all of my devices. Finally started the process in the last week. One phone in my house is updated. It had the swipe to upgrade freeze bug which 9.0.1 fixed. It also had the unable to complete manual iCloud backup bug which 9.0.2 fixed. I did install 9.0.2 on an older 2012 iPad 4 on Saturday. So far it seems to be working ok. I'm going to see how it goes with my favorite apps before updating anything else.

9.0.2 already! I hope the worst of the bugs is fixed now. I won't upgrade this week because I'll be too busy, but probably next week.

Biggest headache for me is there is no way to stop Game Center from popping up and trying to sign in when I open a game on my iPad. Non of the tricks from IOS 8 work.

I noticed this too--in previous iOS versions the pop up went away after canceling out three times. In iOS 9, it did eventually go away for me--but I needed to cancel out a lot more than three times before it went away. Fingers crossed that it stays away now!

It took weeks to go away for me with iOS 8, if not months. But I soon deleted most of the games that were Game Center enabled, so maybe it took me longer to notice it had gone... I guess I'd better fish out that list of safe games I made at the time. And that will certainly be the end of angry birds 2 for me. It's bad enough putting up with all those ads, but with the Game Center harassment on top of that I can see it heading for the trash can.
Oh, and isn't it convenient how autocorrect puts the capital letters in game center? I noticed it doesn't do that when I type, say, android. |

So far tonight is the longest it's gone without the Game Center popping up, will let you know tomorrow if it's finally decided it's had enough.
edit. Just had a thought, the only thing I've done tonight is, it's the first time I've had it connected to ITunes since the update, just to put some books on. Last edited by alanHd; 10-05-2015 at 03:29 PM. Reason: Added info |
