Replace 300+ files in AZW3

Hi,

I'm trying to replace the JPG files inside big AZW3 (like 60-80 MB each) in order to make them thinner.

I "unpacked" the AZW3 and got the JPGs. I use Irfanview to reduce resolution and 8 bits instead of 24.

PROBLEM: Later, into the editor, I realized the file names inside the AZW are like 00001.jpg and so. Totally different naming as the ones I got.

Is there a way to export ALL the images? (exporting seems to keep the correct name). Trimming/Reescaling every image from the editor would be like a torture.

I can do it with EPUB files. Will I have to convert AZW3 to EPUB, replace JPGs, and the convert again to AZW3?

Can someone help me here with a better way?

Any help will be greatly welcomed!

For command line operation

calibre-debug --explode-book

for GUI operation use the unpack book tool (Preferences->Toolbars)

Hi Kovid,

Thank you very much for your (very prompt) support.

Calibre is a great software and the people behind it make it even better.

I've tried GUI and seems working fine.
I'll try command line operation in case some automation can be achieved.

Is there any way to select an specific folder to place the files?
(instead of C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Local\Temp\Temp\calibre_dye8 ow\0j7h77_tweak_1\, for example).

Thanks

You can set the temp dir calibre uses via an environment variable, but not the actual folder itself within that temp dir. http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cust...ment-variables

Hi Kovid,

I knew about the environment variables and I'm using them to use a RAM disk instead of windows TEMP folder.

Anyway, thanks a lot.
