You could be right. A few weeks ago I found out that there was a new firmware, but saw no changes except the usual "we fixed some bugs" , so I updated. The one change I have noticed (on my KPW1) is that there is now a search history.

It could be that the font rendering has changed, but it would be quite stupid, to be honest. Everything below size 5 is smaller than the letters in my paperbacks (3, 2 and 1 are just tiny, tinier, and tiny-ad-absurdum), and 6 is fracking huge. 5 is the only setting that now works for me.

Do the input and output profiles in Calibre actually make a noticable difference? I've never tested that.

I've noticed no real difference, but I've not studied it in detail, and I've not tried PW or Voyage output, only basic kindle. I've heard there might be a difference in pictures, if one has a kindle with a higher resolution.

Output profiles only affect the resolution of pictures.

Depending on your Output profile, pictures may be resized down to the maximum supported resolution of your configured target, which should save on space.

Thanks. I don't want that, so I'm going to reconvert all my books using the output profile with the highest resolution. I don't want my pictures resized, as I often replace maps with high-res versions that I can zoom into.

If you're sideloading AZW3, you might want to try the font_ramp hack, which will allow you to customize font sizes to your liking, no jailbreak required. And yes, it works on 5.6.5.

But it only works on AZW3. Doesn't work on MOBI or KFX

Thanks; I'll look into it I don't want to jailbreak, and if I can help it, I won't use anything beside AZW3. I don't actually care what format the e-reader uses, as long as Calibre can convert to it, starting out with an EPUB

I have attached FONT_RAMP.ZIP to this post. If you want to try it, extract the file FONT_RAMP from it, and put it into the Kindle's root folder. Then restart the Kindle. It works on a Kindle Paperwhite 1 with the latest firmware; I don't know with which others it will work.

You can adjust the font sizes by editing the numbers in the file. I.e., the 8 numbers in the file correspond to the 8 font-size choices on your Kindle. If Size 7 and 8 are too big, just decrease the number in the file, copy it back to your Kindle's root and restart your device.

Just be sure to use a text editor that will allow you to save the file as plain text with no extension.

As for the general low impact of the actual materials of an SD slot, multiple people have repeatedly pointed out that you haven't taken into consideration all the many things that are impacted by an SD slot.
Design, manufacturing, customer support all add their part.

It takes little understanding of the contemporary human mind to figure out that a Kindle Paperwhite with SD slot would generate far more CS calls than one without.


But then, you knew that. That's why you ignored all the posts except for mine (which unfortunately was not nearly as broad as you claimed)...
