This WESTERN NOVEL is getting a lot of reviews that mention typos, so buyer beware. I downloaded it here http://www.amazon.com/Derby-Man-Book...cCarthy+kindle but may delete it if the act of reading starts to resemble the act of putting together a puzzle with too many missing pieces. |

New Markdown (to Zero) on a Good Number of Heraklion Press Ebooks.
Heraklion Press has marked down a sizable number of their ebooks to the price of $0.00. There are some repeats from previous sales. It seems that most of the ebooks are fiction this time, so I'm posting the information about the sale on this fiction thread.
Heraklion is, as you may know, one of the plethora of publishers of public domain ebooks which have been "cleaned up" before they have been republished. Here is a link to their ebooks, sorted by price low to high. A couple of books from other sources have somehow gotten into the results; they are easy to spot, however. And, who knows, you may want to own one or more of those, too. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 09-17-2015 at 02:12 AM. |

A Round of Markdowns, to Zero, from Waxkeep Publishing, Also.
Not to be outdone (just kidding, I don't know why they've done this), another one of those publishers of public domain ebooks which have been "cleaned up" before they have been republished has, I see, marked down some ebooks to zero. This publisher is Waxkeep Press.
They have what I'm going to say is a "large" number of ebooks marked down. There are some, but just a few it seems, repeats from previous sales. As with Heraklion Press' markdown, it seems that most of the ebooks are fiction this time (but maybe by a smaller margin than Heraklion's). So, as I did with Heraklion, I'm posting the information about Waxkeep's sale on this fiction thread. Here is a link to their ebooks, sorted by price low to high. There are one or two books from other sources that have somehow gotten into the results; they are easy to spot, however. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 09-17-2015 at 02:14 AM. |

What I specifically meant by "cleaned up" is the text--the text in the books is not just images of the original text. I know that the original text had been scanned, OCR'd, and maybe then proofread for OCR misreads (if the modern, high-tech equipment and software that the Gutenberg people use ever makes any misreads). I didn't remember who had done it (Gutenberg), but I knew that it had been done by someone at some point in time. The text definitely was not made up of just scanned images! The next time, I'll change the description of these publishers so as to be more precise. At one time some of us had a "contest" on this thread to come up with a short description for the type of publishing company that we were talking about. But we never did settle on one. Oh, and thanks for the links to the markdowns of other, similar publishing companies. I'm sure that I'll find lots of ebooks that I want to download. Admiralty Orders: Under Admiralty Orders - The Oliver Quintrell Series - Book 3 by M.C. Muir
For officers in His Majesty's Navy during the Napoleonic War, life was not a continuous round of sea battles and subsequent prizes. Spending many months on blockade duty was far from the exciting and profitable life they had expected when entering the Service. Book 3 in the Oliver Quintrell Series, sees Captain Quintrell facing life-threatening events over which he has no control. Ordered to sail to Gibraltar in the late summer of 1804, his ship soon becomes hemmed in, not by Spanish gunboats or French ships of the line, but by the Quarantine Regulations which close the port around him. Unable to halt the loss of life from a raging epidemic, he strives to do his part to help save the Colony when it is at its most vulnerable. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EFZHDZG/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EFZHDZG/ http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EFZHDZG/ |

Since the SF element of this novel is very slight -- it could be taking place "the day after tomorrow" -- I am posting this here as well as in the SF thread.
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera is currently $1.99 at Amazon Barnes & Noble Kobo Google Play and probably elsewhere. Quote:

A Fragile Peace by Paul Bannister After forming a truce with Constantine, the Emperor of Rome, King Arthur of Britain feels confident in his newly established rule. His people are united under his banner, the pagan and the Christian living together as one in his lands, and there seems to be nothing left to do but celebrate his triumph. But a storm is brewing, both within the kingdom and outside it. A terrible plague spreads through the land, killing thousands and weakening Arthur's army. And a rival warlord is gaining power, inciting those on Britain's borders to mount an attack. Can Arthur rally enough men to his side to stop the threat of war?
