I can see that for some people and in some circumstances, water-proofing is an asset. Hell, I'd take it. Why not? But would I upgrade for it personally? Nope. Would the majority of people of people upgrade for it? I very much doubt it. As such, I do not consider it a significant upgrade. A 6.8" screen would be a far bigger deal. People may well upgrade for that, especially if it is a flat-screen Voyage.

I remember all the folks who would never by an e-reader with 3G or WiFI because who needs an e-reader that is connected. I remember stating I would never by an e-reader without buttons. Granted, the only reason I have an e-reader without buttons is because they stopped making them with buttons and I wanted the PW. I am not so invested in buttons to spend the money to buy the version with sensor things although that looks pretty sweet. Maybe if I redevelop a good reading habit.... |

Though some of us will wait till the price becomes reasonable. No we don't need Cds. DVD not needed either. One desktop is all we need. Nope not switching to blu-ray. Ereaders are not worth it. No, don't need a cell phone. Tablets are not worth it. Sure don't need a smart phone. Oh almost forgot, analog TV will work fine. Yep, I have seen all of those. Doesn't mean didn't eventually upgrade.

It is not photoshopped: that is exactly what the Lollipop Fire OS beta for Fire looks like, and if I remember Amazon makes a point of saying that it is not representative of the final UX, which is still being developed. The point of it is for app developers to test compatibility of their apps, not for people to test drive Amazon's skin. Heck, half of Amazon's own apps don't work correctly on the beta.

I'd probably upgrade my Kindle for waterproofing. Not sure what else they could get me to snap on. I'd expect them to focus on dropping price more than adding features at this point. More eyes on Kindle hardware means more KU subscriptions and book purchases. |

Good. Hopefully the final GUI will be something more modern. I like the GUI on the FireTV so they must have some good GUI designers onboard.

What happened to people just accepting different strokes... what would it do to your Kindle if Amazon went for a waterproof device. I wouldn't need it per se but would appreciate it and perhaps have some future use for it...

The OP asked about new kindles without specifying what type of device so the rep answered in terms she knew the OP would understand.

Personally I would rather see meaningful firmware updates for existing Voyages and PWs. Give us good fonts, more formatting options, a lot more options! I would pay $25 to $50 for a FW upgrade only if it truly made my Voyage highly customizable as far as formatting text and page display. I might be interested in a Voyage without the darn light layer which truly lessens the quality of reading. If it is dark enough for a light, I'll use my iPhone 6+ or iPad to read on as the screens are many times better than any eInk out there.
