I just checked my account at the Sacramento Library and it shows three formats for the book: Kindle, OverDrive Read, and EPUB. I think your problem must have been some kind of glitch.

I've always used Aldiko to do the download into its catalog. Will go get another book by the same author & see if the same thing happens. Oh, both books were "recent" additions to the library, within a month.

Got my email that the book is available again & was able to download the book with Aldiko in the Nexus 7. Next time will get books with the Tab Pro instead.

Had a hard time to log in again; many tries with "something wrong" msg! Hit the back button & got logged into the library !!???

Got the book in epub so the problem could be the library, Aldiko, or Android 5.1.1; my bet is on the library as I didn't have any problem logging in the 1st time to get the other book from the Nexus 7.

Interesting check in that the ebook disappear from the Fire, BUT it is still on my computer. Wonder what will happen, as an experiment, if I use Calibre to add it to the its catalog, convert to epub & download the book onto a tablet.........

Here's an example of one of the books that I checked out in Kindle only.

It's happened about 4 times so far for me.

Something to do with it being self pubbed maybe? IIRC it's hard for self pubs to get into OD's catalog (or at least was in the past). Maybe there is another avenue where they can make it available to the OD library catalog through Amazon, not sure.

It's a Smashwords book. Maybe it was just easier to get it from Amazon than Smashwords.

That title is available at B&N, Google and Kobo so it isn't a KDP Select exclusive.

But Overdrive does not get eBooks from B&N, Google, or Kobo. Amaon is the only store Overdrive gets eBooks from. They rest come from the publisher.

The new service is the brainchild of Joe Konrath.
I cannot think of the name of it at the moment.

Amazon exclusive

I don't recall the book titles (they were published by one of the big 5) but I have had the opposite happen at least 3 times--the books were not available as a Kindle book, just e-pub.

That can happen quite a bit. I especially notice it with some Penguin titles.
