I have to build a new desktop tomorrow because my new laser printer arrived today and I need to finish the desktop before I can set it up ... and if I don't set it up SOON ... the cats will pee on it.

email security; an oxymoron

And, here's where the real paradox exists. The only reason that the Council of Total Assholes can monitor any of my internet activity is because I am entirely transparent on the internet. I sign my own name to my opinions. I don't think I've used a handle other than my own name more than twice in 25 years.
I don't use email for anything sensitive; I think the PATRIOT act makes all our email accessible. Of course, that's so much email that the odds of any individual posting being scrutininzed are small, but I think there are bells that go off when words like "bomb" and "Allah" are detected (hi guys and gals, just playing).
I don't like using my real name online, but since writing the book, I've had to develop my public persona. But I use secure Web sites and have a separate private email address. Basically, every time you send email, you shouldn't say anything you wouldn't want to see scrawled on a bathroom wall.

A good hunk of my email is written in a sort of secret language developed by my friends and I a loooooong time ago. It's a little bit like what they do over at LOLCATS, but with its own in jokes and terms (especially acronyms) that no one with any real job to do would ever have the time to sort out.

We talk about bombs all the time ... it's just that when we say "bomb" we mean dropping cat/dog poop from on high .. in massive amounts. I don't think any of the cats have ever discussed religion. I've always just taken it as a given that my cats are not Buddhists (otherwise they would never pee on my Buddha figure ... which they do ... a lot). But, they never mentioned being Muslim, and I haven't noticed them sleeping in the direction of Mecca (which is about as close as they come to praying).

And the idiot City Council snooping on my comings and goings does not rise to the level of Patriot Act monitoring. Now, maybe some day, if my cats really get organized, hijack a few planes, and begin to destroy downtown Austin ....
