My library doesn't have it in stock yet, but in Title Information it gives the options of Overdrive Read, Epub, and Open Epub. (Australian libraries don't have Kindle options in Overdrive.)

I just checked your libraries site and it also shows ePub as an available format so I'm guessing some glitch when you went to download somehow hid the ePub option.

I know sometimes when OD only had the right to sell the EPUB version, when libraries bought the book and then it became generally available through OD for Kindles as well...

... the OD record never got updated (or at least not right away) for those libraries.

So I would see a book that was available only for EPUB at one library, but if I checked one of my other libraries, it would be available for recommendation

and show a Kindle format as well.

Never seen the reverse before.

Wouldn't the library version of the book have DRM even if the retail version didn't? Without DRM, the library isn't lending the book, it's giving it away.

No, some Overdrive books are available as Open epub, as I said above.

Yes, I know about those, but I don't believe any big-name publishers (such as Tor) use that system, do they?

This book is listed as having an Open Epub download option in the Overdrive Title Information. As I said. Would you like a screenshot?

The irony is that it's more difficult to return Open ePubs early (so as not to count against number of allowed checkouts), as compared to DRMed ePubs. Open ePubs can only be returned via the OverDrive app. This is why when it's a choice, I always opt for DRM.

Could be a labor day weekend maintenance bug.

Actually, one can rely on the Library E-Book exemption, which states "... unless used in the course of library checkouts or other non-purchase situations."

No Tor eBooks that I have downloaded via OD have been available in Open ePub. They all have the time limited DRM.

I don't see the box under the stars to allow returning the eBook. That means it has been downloaded. Once downloaded, it will only show one format for redownload.

Return it early and try again and show us a screen shot before you've downloaded it.

When you "checked out" the book on your Nexus 7, exactly what did you do? Were you using a mobile browser or do you have the browser set to desktop user agent? I have been using auto check out lately so I don't remember exactly what the screen looks like.
