When I put my Reader to sleep while I read a book, my status on the book (which writes in sleep mode) I read does not update itself. I have to turn on device and put reader to sleep again to see the updated percentage of the book I read. But there's no problem with the page where I left. I can continue to read from where I left.

Do you guys have any similar problem? I hope its related with latest update.

P.S. I read epub files and I didn't have such problem before this update. (I think I have updated my Kobo on 25th-26th.)
I still have this problem. I know there's no new update so it's normal I still have this problem. But I also have problem with my battery. I read as normal as before but my battery went down under 55% in 3 days, I guess. Is it normal? I didn't do anything different.

I also noticed that once I plugged it to charger my battery went up from 55% to 100% in 10 minutes or less . I know this is also not normal. What do you guys suggest?

P.S. I'm thinking to use factory reset option but I fear that if I lose my e-books, finished books, status etc.

I don't know if a factory reset is the answer, but if you copy from the root directory everything to another drive,do the reset and then copy everything back (with everything i mean every file) then you have restored also your database and needed files, there will be nothing lost.

In my post you reply to,is a link with that specific user, asking the same question, made the same announcement, followed by a couple of people who answered and provide links, then that user start all over again with the same question and announcement.

For the new functions/changelog, "we" (as in users) are depending on beta testing people who tell in the topic what globally change,as Kobo don't even do.
That people (such as Davidfor) are doing that on a totally volunteer base, and post it in the topic itself in a couple of ours or a day in the topic.
Each firmware has it's own topic, where not only the known changes are in,but also unknown changes due to user feedback.
So it is important to read the whole topic because there can be unknown bugs or changes added in later posts.
That is almost impossible to put in the first topic, so in general, when a new firmware is there, a new topic is opened,a couple of hours,or later because the patching people as GeoffR doesn't always have time to patch it right away, and the betatesting people react.

In the new firmware topic ( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185660 ) There is always a link placed to the new discussion, but that is also depending on people who do this voluntary.
I agree that some things are a bit harder to find but if you make a subscription to that topic you will always get a warning that there is a new firmware out.
The same volunteer adds later in that topic warnings about important bugs that are find out,he can't do that right away because most of new bugs are found much later.

So even when you adapt the first topic time after time,it is important that you read the whole topic because things can be added later that are in your own interest.
In can be (in theory) even dangerous if you only read the first topic, because new bugs like the sickel bug in 3.17.0 was found out much later, and you miss that if the volunteer doesn't had the time to update that first topic...
All written in respect.

With all respect, I disagree. Given everything you've said, I still don't see why the first post, or a couple posts after couldn't contain the majority of useful information. YMMV.

Thats okay, everyone can/may have his/er own opinion.. Only the topic starter can change his/her post or an admin.
The main firmware post is updated by one and the same person, you can't demand that everyone will update.
When I would start the topic, with your "demands" I have to keep following the topic continue to add the newest things to the startpost.
Then a lot of people will stop opening a topic.. that is not the way it works.

A person who wants to upgrade,or patch,it is in his own interest to follow/read the whole topic to get the most updated information,if he/she doesn't want that, then don't upgrade or patch or cry later that you didn't read the warnings.
Because if you demand that the first posts are updated in that way, people will blame the topic starter,no topic starter will have that, sorry,I disagree, lets get back on topic.

I didn't "demand" anything. You seem to now be making excuses just for the sake of it, IMO. I never said anything about patches. I never said anything about the download firmware thread. You seem to be throwing up road blocks for no reason.

Feel free to get back on topic.

And I never get personal to you.. I used the word demand, because I don't know a more clear or better word, for the rest again, just your 2 cents, not mine.. I used examples you call them excuses, all okay to me,I was not my intention to make you angry, but I keep my opinion that it is not possible to change the startpost for every firmware in the way you want/demand/ask/wish/whatever word you will like.

When the firmware is first available, there's very little info known about it. Then as more and more upgrade to that version, there will be more little problems that are posted about. And problems that some experience don't happen to other users. Kobo often doesn't even issue "What's New" info about the firmware, and when they do, it definitely never includes all the changes.

It would be a nightmare for the person that started the thread to try and keep up with all the posts and try to consolidate all that incoming info into 1 or 2 posts from scores of pages.

It's really one of those situations where you need to try it and see if you like it or not, if it affects the way you use your reader adversely or not. If you don't like it, it's easy enough to go back to older firmware with all the helpful posts stickied on MobileRead with links to each and every firmware version.

Aren't system files located in root directory? I mean If I do what you suggested, wouldn't I get exactly as same device as before this process?

No, the system files are in a hidden partition.

Not going to happen.

The general sequence of events when a new firmware version is released is:
  • Kobo releases the firmware
  • Someone notices and posts, either in the Direct Links to Kobo Firmware thread, the now previous version's discussion thread, or they create a thread for the new release.
  • At some point, if the thread doesn't exist, someone creates the discussion thread.
I maintain the Direct Links to Kobo Firmware thread. When I see a notice that the new version is available, I grab the firmware, and update the first post of that thread. This takes at least an hour and many edits. I'm not paid for my efforts. I started doing it because of the problems I was having with Kobo's firmware at the time (Kobo really, really screwed over the Australian devices). Now I maintain it out of inertia.

Then, if it doesn't exist yet, I create the new version's discussion thread.

It usually takes a short while for someone who knows anything about the new release to post about what's in the new release. Usually this is Davidfor, who is also in Australia, so depending on when the release is noticed, this can take up to a day, depending on the time zones.

Of course, we could probably arrange for the first post of the discussion thread to contain actual information about the changes in a release, if Kobo released this information. Usually Kobo's release information is, not to mince words, terse. Very terse. Extremely terse. If they release any info at all.

And nothing is stopping you from creating a thread, and maintaining the first post with everything that is known about a release. It's a lot of work. If the people here find value in it, they will use that thread to discuss the release.

So, until you actually put in any effort, you shouldn't be criticising the lack of such effort on everyone else's part.

My thoughts in a nutshell Ironic when members of a reading forum think it's too much trouble to have to read stuff.
