That was a bit how it was.. but the request topic has a lot of questions like: can the light changed to this and can that... most of the recent changes are requested by people who don't want to go in 3 menu's,or use a paperclip..

Just to add my two cents. A major factor of why I switched to Kobo over any other ereader was the freedom offered in the options for users. It worked perfectly well for those who wanted to just take it out of the box, but also allowed for users to modify and tweak quite a bit to their satisfaction.

Giving users options in a well designed way is probably the best thing any company can do. Locking people down, especially when it comes to how they read, just leads to resentment from those with the skill required to have made the experience better.

Sleep Cover Probs?
Sorry if I missed this somewhere in the many many posts on this forum.

I'm on the cusp of getting myself to do more reading, which was the whole point, but I keep having power issues (i.e. totally drained) when I finally settle down to read.

I have a Kobo Glo HD, new about 4 months ago. I had installed KSM to try to get some pdf's read. I uninstalled to just get back to a stock device because it's unclear where the power drain was from.

Well, now stock, 3.17.3, wifi off, it's the same. Go to read (epubs) after at most 2 days and it is drained.

Just now I tested the cover, and I see that my power off setting doesn't seem to take effect. I think it's just always in sleep now.

What's up with the power? Should I rma?

Two days of battery time is absolutely not normal, even when it just sleeps and never powers off. I have my H2O configured to never power off, just sleep, and it takes weeks for the battery to drain completely, with about two hours of reading time a day. I'd do a factory reset, leave it as is (no patches, no KSM) and check. If it still drains the battery in two days, RMA it.

Oh wow, so should be sleeping better too. Yeah it just eats up power sleeping. I'll try the factory reset.

edit: 2 days later, factory reset seems to have fixed it. None or hardly any battery drain over 2 days. I think if I do mod it again, I'll make sure to factory reset for new firmware versions first. Nifty device if I can just pick it up and read and not mess around with constantly charging. I didn't realize how out of whack it was.

will i lost possibilities to hack it?what features upgrade will bring me up?

Hello micione20--

I don't know as much about Kobos as PeterT and Nick_1964, but I do own an AuraHD, and I read the forums. I'm not sure exactly what features you're looking for, but I can tell you that you definitely will NOT lose the possibility of hacking if you upgrade. Also, if you upgrade and don't like the new features (or if the upgrade causes problems for you), you can reset to factory and it will take your Kobo back to the 3.14 firmware it had when you bought it.

I hope this helps, and I'm sorry that some people get frustrated with new users.

I am not getting frustrated with new users, but every thread for new firmware tells exactly what the new features are,and links to a patch.
If,as told,everything is read,then it is impossible to ask about if it can be patched because you can find that very easy,with detailed instructions about how to do it.
I also often ask questions,but the questions of micione20 are answered in every topic about the different firmwares and in the combination topic where all the links are to the different firmwares,in which you find a link to every tread.
If known, I can and will answer every question,to every new user.
He asked the same question in this very same topic a couple of post early-er ( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=189 ) and all the questions where nicely answered including links to it.

Yes and no. Exactly what can be hacked, needs to be hacked and what is known how to hack changes with each firmware. In general, the most popular and easy hacks are sorted out in a couple of days of the release of the firmware. But some take more time.

Without sorting through all the firmware releases since 3.14.0 and compiling a list of the changes, I can't say. I could possibly list the highlights from memory, but, I would then get someone posting that it wasn't a highlight. As there is a list of known changes for each firmware near the start of the thread discussing the firmware, I will leave it as an "exercise to the reader" to look at the threads and read the changes to see what you like.

Having said that:

You have the latest Kobo device and are a new user. Let the device update and use that as the base for your future comparisons.
