Interesting analysis, tomsem.
On my PW2 the images from KFX books are in a separate KFX file in the assets/attachables subdirectory of the book's sdr directory. These are not obfuscated and can be found easily within the file. Comparing these KFX images with those from the corresponding AZW3 file downloaded from Amazon's web site shows some major differences. The images from the KFX file are highly compressed in JPEG-XR format. Also, most (but strangely not all) are reduced to black-and-white. Amazon is taking customization of book files delivered to individual devices to an extreme. This may make it difficult in the future to get the "best" version of a book for those who want to archive books or convert them to another format. |

^^^ this means now even if you can de-DRM kfx it is no guarantee you "own" the best possible version of the file.

For one, Amazon has always stripped the image sizes. I consider that an advantage, personally... |

Looking forward to the KFXGen tool, I guess it's the key if we want Calibre to support this format.

I'd like to request a favor.
Can someone who has a KFX-enabled device please upload a zipped KFX (with all the resources et cetera) in addition to the AZW3 for this book, which indicates it is KFX-enabled: Life on the Mississippi, by Mark Twain It is a free, PD book with the usual description that indicates it was uploaded by Amazon from the Gutenberg archives or wherever they them from : Quote:
This would be useful for people wishing to investigate KFX even when they don't have a supported device. |

I have the Twain book on my PC. I don't see the hyphenation in the K4PC app.
