Much better, maybe change "he" for it,then the buyer doesn't know the gender yet..(yes some like boys and some like girls, with he you give a little spoiler away..)

#4 is okay, with the hands. It shows hope. but I don't like super-grim stuff. Just my taste.
#2 ain't bad. I don't get all this stuff about it's not a baby. Ur, I think the title makes the intention and meaning clear. anyway, my two cents. Saying that, the new one you posted will probably work because people respond to faces and big eyes. Last edited by Rizla; 09-05-2015 at 09:41 AM. |

Okay. Now some (other) people think the baby (the one with the blue eyes in the crib in post #45) looks happy and that the cover conveys no suspense. How about this one? Thanks.

I agree. We're back to horror and ghost stories.

It's a design problem and while we all know there are technical issues to writing we seem to be ignoring the technical issues related to design.
As an example on the one cover with the big blue eyes I count 4 different typefaces. Not good design. It is messy and breaks things up. As a photographer I can also say non of the images have much merit photographically. If you put any effort at all into writing a book I don't get why you wouldn't get trained professional help with a cover. |

On the one with the big blue eyes, I count 3 typefaces, which is fine [Post #47.]
The word 'shutterstock' is - of course - not a part of the design! ![]() In my opinion, three typefaces are fine. Go beyond that and you risk muddying the design components. ----- The newest design experiment looks like some kind of sequel to ET, or some sort of creation encased in amniotic fluid. I personally don't care for it. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 09-06-2015 at 10:12 AM. |

I agree the green one is horror. (It's like all these covers, there's always something good about them.)
I am really leaning toward the baby one, though, which is below. ![]() Some people have ripped on it. Saying it's redundant. (Baby in the title, baby in the photo.) Which is true. Some say it looks like non-fiction. But I don't think non-fiction would have that big red BABY title. Some say it doesn't convey suspense. I don't know about that--the baby has sad eyes and is pushing his mouth into the crib. And the red in the title tells you danger. As ducks said the tagline helps with the idea of suspense. But, the thing is, many people, especially many women, have loved this cover. (One woman said, 'there is no woman that is not going to love that pic.' And that when they find out the story is about abuse (via the tagline) they will want to read the blurb. One woman said when she read the tagline she cried.) And as for not having the baby on the cover I have seen many suspense books with the baby on the cover. It's like I said, There's always something good about every cover. (That green one will stand out as a thumbnail.) But there is no perfection. At some point, I just have to decide. |

Gregg,
Use the one you love. Either of the last two would make me take a second look. |

I like the balance of the text to picture, but the Gregg ... needs to lose the serif
I checked a few BPH covers No mix of serif, sans-serif |

Sorry Gregg, I've not made any comments about your covers. I haven't really liked any of them very much - big baby blue eyes least of all (although it may well be the best fit for the actual story). But since I don't have any better suggestions to make I've been keeping quiet. I do know it's very hard when you can't find a good fit. ETA: I should probably clarify: big baby blue eyes probably would catch my eye, I just don't like the image very much. And further: one person's dislike of an image is not enough reason on its own to discount it, you will never please all the people all the time. Last edited by gmw; 09-07-2015 at 08:25 AM. |
