A new weather app has joined the many other weather apps I have on my iPad: the new Accuweather app. It has a feature I really like: the Minutecast. It tells you if any rain is heading toward your location and how many minutes (from 1 to 120) will pass before it starts raining in your area.

I checked it at a quarter to two, and it said there would be no rain in my area for at least 120 minutes. As I had just poured a cup of coffee, I told Norton we would go walking after I drank it and read a chapter in my book. At two o'clock I arose to go and noticed it was raining.

So why do I love this app more than my other weather apps? Well, the way I figure it, all weather apps are going to strike out now and then, but when this one's wrong, it's wrong with such precision!

I use the aviation forecasting tools here. The radar feed for precipitation is awesome. I just show the loop of the last six radar images which are ten minutes apart and I can estimate (pretty accurately actually) how long I have before it starts raining. My estimates are only accurate to about fifteen minutes, but I know if I've got enough time to get to work without rain or if I can mow the lawn before the storm.

All that said, Accuweather is the worst of the forecasts in my area.

Environment Canada > The Weather Network > my dad > Accuweather

How do foods get categorized into classes, which technically, they don't exist? As an example, tomatoes are commonly treated as vegetables, but they are actually fruits. In the same way, cashews are treated as nuts although they aren't actually nuts.

It's because "Vegetable" is a strictly culinary classification, not a botanical one. Furthermore "fruit" has two completely different definitions depending on whether you are talking about food or plants:

Vegetable - an edible plant which is savory/not sweet.
Fruit (culinary) - an edible plant that is sweet.
Fruit (botanical) - a seed-bearing organ.

The two different definitions of fruit also mean that you have things which qualify as fruit in the culinary sense but not the botanical one. (Rhubarb)

Nut in common parlance is used to refer to anything with a hard outer shell.
