I have not used a cover with my Aura, and I do travel with my Aura in a backpack with my computer. I have not had and issue, but posts like this make me nervous. Is the Kobo sleep cover adequate protection from the bending type of force that breaks the substrate?

The sleep cover will certainly provide some protection, but in all honesty a backpack is not an ideal environment for a reader, particularly if you're going to put other heavy items in there. It has no rigidity, so won't protect against bending forces.

It's better than nothing, but most covers do not protect against bending or torsion well. The best solution is to avoid any kind of force in the first place.

Same way noise dampening mats in a PC case don't work nearly as well as ... using silent components that don't produce any noise in the first place.

People who know how to swim are much more likely to drown than people who don't, because the latter group avoids water in the first place.

If your bag is bursting at the seams and likely to be squashed or sat on while traveling, it's not a good place for a reader no matter what the case it's in.

If you have to put it in a bag, probably best if it had a dedicated compartment for the reader and no bulges in odd places that could bend/torque/apply force to it. So if you put it in a computer case it probably should not share room with the laptops PSU brick.

whichever e-reader you have you should always have it in a case/cover, i have an aura myself and its always in it's cover, all e-readers are relatively fragile devices regardless of make or model.

best wishes koboy

I bought my Kobo Aura in March and since then I carry it in a case. Nevertheless, a couple of weeks ago, the screen showed up much like as yours but only with horizontal lines at the bottom, just after I woke it from sleep. I don't know what caused it but I got a new one from warranty.

I got my cover from Gecko Covers at: http://www.geckocovers.com/ereader-c...ra-6-inch.html

You were very fortunate; a fractured screen substrate is not a fault that the warranty covers.

From what I've read in other thread, horizontal or vertical lines are due to some kind of defective screen contact with the motherboard, whereas diagonal lines are related to fractured screen somehow caused by user, thus not covered by warranty. I live in Portugal and my Kobo was sent to Canada (i guess) for evaluation. A week later FNAC contacted me and gave me a new Kobo.

It cannot hurt to contact Kobo and see what they are willing to do for you.
