Lots of authors unknown

I have 7.197 books in my calibre library with unknown author. In fact, the author is in the metadata because when I press the button "information" in basic metadatas, the author appears. So on, I can press 7.197 times the information button, but I don't want to die doing that for the rest of my life, or pay to one of my sons to do it. Is there any solution for this? I know I can modify massively the covers in "change covers" from the files

Is there any way to change the basic metadata massively as I can do with the covers? My knowledge about python is absolutely first grade or less. But I can copy&paste . Any plugin?

You show (are in) Single Metadata Edit mode

If you select multiple books, then tap the "E", the form is a little different and applies to ALL selected

Correct form, wrong tab (unless you are extracting data from another column)

the Main tab allows you to bulk change all the books that were selected

eg
Setting Author to: Mary Smith
Series to: Neverending IMHO The Manage Series PI is better as it also allow ordering, skipping (missing), fractional values

It may be a bit difficult to tell because it isn't in English, but that IS Bulk Edit mode.


@marisolea,

I don't know of any way to bulk extract metadata from the book files -- only covers, as you say.


Re-importing the books might do the trick -- make sure Preferences ==> Adding books is set to read metadata from the file contents.

Eschwartz, just now I'm trying to do it and it goes! Well, at least I won't die doing metadata changes one by one. I'm happy.



Theducks, it's because there's more than one author, more than one serie... I've made bulk changes some times, but this was a bulk-not the same author change Many thanks anyway

Bulk mode is only for making stuff the same

You said you were not sure what was shown was the Bulk mode because of language.
Since there WAS the S&R form (even if I can't read it )

Sorry I was sure based on the form layout. Also I answered (your) post #2 -- no S&R in the first image, but it does have e.g. the radio buttons for setting a new cover.

The second image with the S&R was also a dead giveaway.

@marisolea - perhaps you could copy the books to disk move the book folders (see post #13), remove them from the library, then add them back to the library with Add Books->Control Add Books->Read metadata from file contents... checked

If unsure - try it with a couple of books.

As I said in post #5 -- except I'm not so sure about saving to disk, calibre would probably overwrite the metadata with "Unknown Author", etc.

Best to simply copy those books via the file browser.

Quite right - I was toeing the 'don't look under the covers' party line

If it were me I'd would move the "Unknown" author folder elsewhere, and then remove all the books for Author "Unknown" which would clear them from the database.

The Central Committee of the Politburo would put me on trial for sedition if they knew what I get up to under the covers
