How could I have forgotten Wodehouse?

Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, Stevenson, Asimov, Douglas Adams (he he)

My favourite of his is Bleak House, but I'm not sure that's the best place to start. Oliver Twist might be.

And Adams is definitely a classic

Wodehouse is not in the public domain unless one happens to live in the United States, and even then, only his very early works are.

True. But nor are some of the other authors mentioned

Sorry, my apologies to the Professor... and Mary Ann too.

I am currently reading "The Stock Broker's Clerk" in the Memoirs at this time. So, probably a few days until I get to The Final Problem.

I have this weird thing with the Sherlock Holmes stories where I am pretty sure I have not read all of them but I can't remember which ones I have read. I have fond memories of my dad reading them to me when I was a kid, and I remember The Speckled Band and the Red-Headed League. I am pretty sure I read the first novel too, but I am not 100% sure. One of these days, I am going to go back and read them all in order.

I tried loading that onto my eBookwise, but I have a mac, so I couldn't do it. The personal content server won't let you upload files bigger than a certain size, and the .imp file of this title was too big. If there was an eReader version, I'd be all over that for my iPod Touch...

Yes, Patricia, when I did a search here recently, I did note that you've uploaded her work. I'm very happy about that and appreciative of it.

BTW, Patricia, are you planning on producing an ebook of Gaskell's biography of Charlotte Brontë anytime in the future? I don't think I see it uploaded yet. Just curious, no pressure or anything like that.

My first and favorite of all the Wodehouse's - Leave It To Smith -- I think it comes into public domain in 2009, or it just did in 2008. It was written in 1923, not sure how that works. My introduction to Lord Emsworth and Blandings Castle.

Wodehouse died in 1975, which means that he will not be in the public domain in "life + 70" countries (which virtually all of us live in) until 1st Jan 2046.

In the US only, anything published prior to 1923 is in the public domain, but I'm afraid that's a fixed date - it doesn't move on year by year.
