What determines if a book sent to amazon via email will be AZW3? - Page 2

I'm glad you got it working, but fwiw, most of my ebooks have a "toc" reference in the <guide> section and they convert fine to MOBI-both and open as AZW3 on my Kindle Voyage, so it doesn't seem like the existence of a "toc" <guide> reference is the only factor.

The only difference I can see between my working "toc" references and your non-working reference is the working references point to a complete html page without a # anchor -- e.g., <reference type="toc" href="text/part0001.html" title="Table Of Contents"/>

Perhaps having the # anchor messes things up??

Maybe. Oh well as long as it seems to be working AND sending title info with series then thats good enough for me.

Ive come across two books that are behaving oddly. Terry Pratchett's the Long Utopia and one of Anne McCaffreys Dragon series (Dragons Time I think).

Both send as AZW3 but no matter what I do wont include the series info in the title, Ive tried re-downloading from amazon and re-importing to Calibre and deleting various bits in the files but to no avail.

Had to change the overall book title in Calibre then convert to mobi then change it back. A pain but at least it works.

Calibre plugboards don't work with "dual Mobi" files. Is it possible that that's the format you're creating in Calibre?

Yes i'm creating dual mobi and no in these odd cases its not that that's causing this, some books just don't seem to process correctly and pass through the correct title but most others do. Very odd but at least you can get around it.

Plugboards will never work with a dual Mobi file. Calibre can't edit the metadata of such files. If you want to use plugboards you need to use either "old" Mobi or AZW3.

216 Books cleaned and successfully sent to Amazon as AZW3 (from dual mobi) with series information intact in titles (probably 10-15 overall that had to be re-sent with the title physically altered to include series info manually).

Only 1 book so far that flatly refuses to convert properly and ends up as mobi regardless, have tried converting various ways, cleaning the epub with Modify Epub plug in, using online converter then re-importing it to calibre and manually checking through all files for dodgy code and checking epub against online validator and all is fine. I gave up on this one and left it as a mobi.

You can't tell. You need to look at it with a tool that will tell you, such as Calibre.

Try to highlight two words--connected with a hyphen. <==

MOBI has an annoying bug where both words get highlighted.

If you built the book yourself, you can of course use @media calls to display or hide a paragraph block that says "This is a mobi7."

Hmmm...I just tried highlighting two words connected with a hyphen, and both words got highlighted in both a mobi book and a kf8 book. The only format that was able to highlight only one of the words was the new kfx format.
