Seems to me that this is like using the wrong name for a person or something else totally irrelevant. Or using the wrong color. Or the wrong phone number. |

On the other hand people that have read both say that the English translation is not good at all. |

As I said in my report on the books above, I thought that all three were absolutely superb. The best crime fiction I've read in a very long time. I certainly had no issues with the translation.

Sure, it could be an unintended shift. Maybe you're right, maybe the author didn't realize that car didn't come in that model in this reality. That still doesn't make it wrong in his book, no more than having someone smoke "Dromedaries" in a TV show because they don't want the headaches of using Camels makes that show secretly alt-universe SF. It's an insignificant detail that you're overthinking. |

I am still reading Lost Horizon, should finish tomorrow, but I had a 7+ hour round trip drive today and decided to try an audio book so I borrowed The Quiller Memorandum by Adam Hall from my library. It is 7 hours and 19 minutes long so I had to sit in my driveway to listen to the last 3 minutes. Good selection for this particular trip. Excellent book! I will be looking for more of the Quiller books as soon as I can.

Finished Spree. Starting to reread 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus , Second Edition by Charles C. Mann. Always an interesting read...
I have it in dead-tree format, so I will likely read something else on my tablet... the key is to go with entirely different genres. |

I just finished Simon R. Green's Forces from Beyond, sixth and last* in his "Ghost Finders" series. It helped immensely that I'd read the previous book a few days before, and familiarity with the Secret Histories and Nightside books also came in handy... it all ties in for a battle to save the world. I was thoroughly pleased with the book as climax to a solidly long series - six 300-page books ain't nothin' - and in its own right. I am seriously considering a Hugo nomination for it next year; it was fun, and it was good, and it was good fun.
I can't wait to see what the Droods do next. I'm a book behind on Eddie's adventures; perhaps I should correct that oversight... * No, I have not heard any official word that the series has ended. I'll just be very surprised if there's a seventh book. I should note that I felt the same way about six books into the Nightside series, though, and it ran for half a dozen more volumes with a second arc... |

I was able to finish at lunch today. I think it is a worthy book for the book club and would be a good selection in January as our 2015 runner-up.
Spoiler:
Next up: Pyramids by Terry Pratchett as I slowly work my way through the Discworld. |

I just finished Therapy by Sebastian Fitzek. It was quite a page turner but not that memorable in the end, in my opinion.
I would recommand it to those who like thrillers and want to have a nice time. Not a too thought inducing one, though. |

I'm currently reading Kinsey and Me by Sue Grafton, in preparation for her new release in the ABC series, "X". Kinsey and Me contains a collection of short stories about the PI from her ABC series, followed by a frank look into Sue Grafton's life in a series of "And Me" stories, which I haven't got to yet. The short stories are fun, with some interesting premises, if sometimes wrapped up just a bit too quickly. But that may just be my expectation of the novels, and these are after all short stories. |

It also wasn't very engaging, and a little too Andre Norton-esque for me. I expect the rest to be better. For an athor's first novel it wasn't bad. Next up: The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch. I resisted buying this when it came out (it's not as if I'm short of good books to read!), and now I have it at a very good price, and I'm really looking forward to reading it. |
