Yesterday I finished A Dirty Job (Grim Reader #1) by Christopher Moore and enjoyed it so much I immediately pre-ordered the sequel, Secondhand Souls. I could see the big reveal coming from 26 chapters away—let's face it; the cover art gives it away(!)—but that in no wise took away from my pleasure in the journey. I highly recommend this one.

So I'm reading this book by Steven Baxter, Voyage. It's a very technical book and it seems to be hard SF, so you would expect it to be pretty accurate with the science.

But, right near the start this astronaut is driving his Corvette, which apparently is a 4 seater. Um, what? I don't think so.

Does it take place in the future?

EDIT:

Spoiler:
From Wikipedia I learned that this takes place in an alternate timeline that diverged from our own starting when Kennedy survives the events in Dallas. Such a world might indeed have a four-seat Corvette.

No, it is alternate history. But, I still don't believe a 4 seater corvette just because of that. I think I'm somewhere in the early 80s in the story.

Finished reading The Illustrated Dictionary of Snark: A Snide, Sarcastic Guide to Verbal Sparring, Comebacks, Irony, Insults, and Much More by Lawrence Dorfman.

... Not really a dictionary.

Still working on the short story collection, Academic Exercises by K. J. Parker.

Golden Buddha was ok. It has a good mix of heist action along with some military/political thriller. That said, I just don't buy the premise of the The Oregon, so I won't be continuing the series.

Was looking for some information on the next Discworld book I will be reading (Pyramids) and came across three short stories that I could read during lunch (~12 pages total):
Theatre of Cruelty - a short City Watch story from 1993
Death and What Comes Next - a short Death story from 2002
A Collegiate Casting-Out of Devilish Devices - a short Wizards story from 2005

Death and What Comes Next was my favorite of the three.
Spoiler:
I SEE YOU...

The only problem with this is that 12 pages over 3 stories really drops my pages/book count for the year. It's worth it.

Up next is Lost Horizon by James Hilton which was a finalist for the March book club.

No Exit was OK, a short story with a foreword. Trinity of Tylos was dreadful, and I find I had read it before, but had forgotten it, so now abandoned. A silly alien contact/romance story.

Next up: Seas of Ernathe by Jeffrey A Carver. Bought in 2009, but the first in a series of which I bought the second back in 2005, so a necessary preliminary for me to finish off the last of my unread 2005/2006 purchases.

Having finished Simon R. Green's 2014 "Ghost Finders" book, Voices from Beyond, over the weekend, I've now bought and started the new volume: Forces from Beyond. One advantage to using Kobo: I don't have to wait those last three hours before I can purchase from Amazon or Google! Granted, I'm still paying full price, but for this series, it's worth it.

Oh, Happy, you little scamp...

Onto some light and fun reading right now with Jasper Fforde's The Eyre Affair. This is my third Fforde title and I haven't tired of his style yet.

New books are available at midnight on the publication date. From Amazon (located in Seattle), that's at 3 a.m. Eastern time. I suppose Google is the same, I don't know.
