I've just sideloaded this F/W onto my Aura HD, and ... have the font settings changed?

I tried opening the book I was reading this morning, and had to drop the font size down by three taps on the minus key to get it back close to where it was before updating. That setting wouldn't normally change with a firmware update, would it? Unless the font metrics in the F/W had been altered, I mean? (The font choice is on "Publisher's Default".)

I experienced a change in font size like you did, but I don't think it was that extreme. I also considered that it might be because I'm using GeoffR's patch that enables the advanced controls on side-loaded fonts, and 3.17.3 wasn't patched yet, so it possibly was not really a change in the firmware but rather the missing patch changes.

Im surprised to see Kobo has just pushed 3.17.3 to my device.. It went from 3.15.0 straight to 3.17.3..

Is 3.17.3 that stable?

Maybe it's just me, but 3.17.0 and 3.17.3 made light control via left bezel much slower.

Kobo always updates to newest version for your reader model and afilliate model not always to some version you might want. You can download and install lower version install if you want from this link.

Thanks davidfor. Here are the answers to those questions below.

Which is exactly what is expected when you sign out of the Kobo account on the device.

That's shouldn't happen. Were the books no longer on shelves sideloaded or from Kobo?

I can only say it is working here. The reading positions are syncing correctly. The shelves seem to be, but I haven't change them much lately for books from Kobo recently, so maybe I haven't noticed.

Checking the date and time is good idea. But, what happens when you try to download a book? If it is just one or two books, try deleting it from the library on the Kobo web-site. This will put it in the trash on the site and the next sync will remove the details of the book from the device. Then, you restore the book from the trash and the next sync should download it. Doing this has fixed a couple of books that had gotten into a weird state.
-Only after I used Kobo desktop to import that book into my account. However, after manually adjusting the date/time, it did work correctly.

-What it did was hang when trying to log out. As a result, upon rebooting it re-processed the entire library on my device, resulting in lost reading position, reading settings, bookmarks, comments etc.

-They were sideloaded.

-I'll keep that in mind. This issue seems to have been driven primarily by the date/time issue, but the automatic reboot after hanging on Kobo logout and its consequences are of concern. That happened to me twice. I'm not gonna try it again tonight to see if the date/time adjustment resolved the problem. I'm just gonna read.

As I said, the signout sounds like it is working correctly. When you do the signout, the database on the device is replaced with an empty one and the device is restarted. Then you are taken through the setup process. After that, all the sideloaded books have to be processed into the database and hence the library. This means that the reading status and collections for sideloaded books is lost. The configuration file is also reset during this process.

For the collections, unless you are using calibre, there is no easy way to get them back for sideloaded books.

Right, the expression "newest version" might not be appropriate. Which FW you get depends on your device model AND your affiliate. For instance, if you have an Aura 6, and your affiliate is RakutenBooks, you get 3.1.0 today.

Wow - that's interesting. I wouldn't have signed out if I knew this was the case. I am using Calibre for mgmt purposes but there's the database issue with Calibre not being updated yet to communicate with this latest firmware version. So...live and learn. No huge deal with the sideloaded epubs not on their shelves. I think I can live with that.

There is NO issue at all with calibre not supporting the current build. Just ensure that the option "Attempt to support newer firmware" is checked in the driver configuration screen.

If ever there WERE to be an issue with calibre and a new firmware version, rest assured that news of that would be plastered ALL across both the calibre and Kobo forums here.

As PeterT said, there isn't a problem. It is simply that the firmware version is higher that that which calibre supports. This is a safety thing in case there is a serious change. I always post a statement about the calibre support in the firmware discussion thread. It's usually early on the first page, but this time I was a little late. And as PeterT also said, if there is a real problem, it will be plastered all over the place.

Is this an agreement between Kobo & your affiliate, I wonder. Maybe the affiliate has only just now got back from their lunch break* and decided that now's the time to push an update to their customers.

What is your affiliate?

Oh cool, thx! That wasn't ticked. Now I need to restore the database as it was with the shelves. I can do that w/ the utilities plugin, right?
