When I had the five dollar credit, it didn't appear, but when I put the book in and went to pay, it knocked off 5 dollars. I couldn't see it, but it was there. You might try starting the checkout to see if it is there?

I saw it too, and when I put books in the cart it showed it as being subtracted in the summary. However when I went to pay and after I had selected paypal it vanished, even though I had a banner saying it would be subtracted in step 2.
I figured maybe it didn't work with paypal or it didn't work because I wasn't a new customer. (If you clicked on the details for the banner it said it was for new customers and was valid until Aug 31). I actually even went through with the purchase in the hope that it would still work somehow but no discount was applied and I was charged the full price :-(
But if it worked for BearMountainBooks then maybe the problem I had was paypal?

No, I used paypal. Kobo has never taken any of my credit cards.

Then I guess I just have to put it down to Kobo being Kobo and things not working the same for everyone for some reason... thanks for the update and hopefully it works for others.

Just got an email request from Kobo for (yet another) survey. This is at least the third time they've asked me. I think their resources would be better spent on fixing their website.

This one is done by a third party survey company. Quite lengthy [yes I did it]. Sort of disappointed that most of the questions were about ereaders, maybe only 1/4-1/3 about the store/website. When you're done, no code but an invite to join 'Kobo insiders'. Here's the blurb on that:

Quote:
Here at Kobo, we’re always interested in what our users think. That’s why we’re inviting you to join the Kobo Insiders community.

What can I expect?

As part of the community, you’ll be invited to take part in research activities. These could include surveys or discussions, and topics could include things like what sort of books you like, how you use our devices, apps and website, or what you think of our latest advertising campaign. We’ll use your feedback to help us make decisions, and let you know how your opinions are shaping what we do.

What’s in it for me?

We appreciate that your time is valuable, so some of the activities you take part in will have a reward for participating. This could be a voucher or monetary reward, or entry into a prize draw, depending on the activity.

How do I join?

To get involved, just click the ‘Next’ button below. You can tell us a little about yourself and become a registered member of Kobo Insiders.

I did the survey too and I joined insiders. No coupons or prizes there either, at least not yet and I've done three or four surveys (they send them out once a month).

They've invited me to join Kobo Insiders as well. It struck me as working for free.

As far as an "entry into a prize draw" goes, they have quite a track record.

I filled out the survey but didn't join Insiders. I told them their prices are too high and the promotions/contests don't work properly.

Yeah, and I've been invited to a few of these by other retailers. Only one does decent giveaways/drawings. I figured I'd give kobo a few months to see if they added any prizes, but nope. The local grocery store invited me and I unjoined pretty fast. They have loooooong surveys and didn't even offer a coupon for ANYTHING. I thought they would at least offer some in-store coupons but after a 20 minute survey they just said they'd be sending a new one out in a week or so and thanks for making their store better. Hmph.

I used the $5 credit and paypal successfully. However, when I tried to add a coupon to an expensive book and use the $5 credit (I know greedy of me) it took away the $5 credit. The small print does say not to be used in combination with other offers, but in the past even though this disclaimer was there, I was able to use a coupon. Not so with this offer.

Or at least ask different people. I don't remember ever getting a survey from them.

I got a survey request, but once the survey found I didn't have a kobo device it said that it didn't need my opinions after all.

I had this happen to me last week. On the homepage and while I was browsing I saw the message I had a 5.00 credit. Tried to buy a book but then the credit disappeared. I contacted them about it, and they told me to use a different browser (I was using Safari) because obviously its a glitch since I don't qualify for the discount and that there was nothing they could do about it. Typical kobo response.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, and when it didn't work, emailed CS. They responded that it's for new users only. Seems rather silly to offer an invitation to someone who isn't allowed to use it. I guess as someone else here said, it's just Kobo being Kobo.
