New Version - 8/2015
FYI - Kris has mentioned on Twitter that the latest version of Marvin (bug fixes, 64-bit, iOS 9, more cloud options and file pickers) is going to be released this weekend. Already submitted to the App Store.

I wonder if this will also fix the problems people have been having with the calibre plugin. From what I understand, Apple locked down the storage areas that the plugin accesses for syncing -- so in order for further progress of any sort to be made, Marvin will have to start storing that info in the documents storage.

I've installed the Marvin update. I've installed the new IOS update on my Mini just this morning.
I've got IOS Reader applications plugin loaded in Calibre, and only one iDevice plugged in. But Calibre still won't see my Ipad Mini when I plug it in. Was any of that fixed in this update, or do I need to some something else? |

Because the iOS reader applications and Marvin XD plugins do not work on iOS8.3 and above. Another iOS update is not going to fix that, if anything, much the reverse!
Apple has deliberately locked down certain storage areas that the plugins need, which is arguably a good thing in the name of security. Or so they say. ![]() |

Bummer about the iOS reader and the lockdown. I loved being able to move my files with iFunBox, but that's gone too. And just now I see the flicker in Marvin while reading that others have mentioned. Not good, that. |

I don't know, probably something to do with the app itself -- not the plugin connectivity.
The Marvin XD thread has some suggestions about what could potentially fix the calibre <==> Marvin connectivity issues, but as far as I know, no one has reached out to Kris about it. I don't know much other than what I read from other peoples' posts, as I don't own an iDevice and cannot speak from experience. |

You need to jailbreak the phone with TaiG (http://www.taig.com/en/) which might seem scary but it's perfectly safe. You then need to run Cydia which is a 3rd party application installer that will be installed on your home screen and search for / install "House Arrest Fix" which reverts the file system restrictions to what they were pre-8.3. Keep in mind this makes your iPhone or iPad a bit less secure but it's probably not that big a deal for most people. Keep in mind this only works with 8.4 and below, the recently released 8.4.1 closes the exploits that allowed jailbreaking. If you are already on the newer release or have used the over-the-air update method to get to 8.4 then you can - for a limited time - restore the firmware to 8.4. I didn't vet these instructions extensively but they look legit (http://www.iphonehacks.com/2015/08/h...ios-8-4-1.html), the second / faster method is all you should need to do. You're basically just downloading the old firmware from Apple and then using iTunes to restore to the older firmware. This normally doesn't work but there's an intermediate period of time after they release a new firmware where they keep signing the old one. Once that's up it's over and you'll have to wait. Do not ever, trust a jailbreak or software that purports to jailbreak your phone unless it's given the ok from somewhere like https://www.reddit.com/r/jailbreak as there tend to be a lot of scams and whatnot once Apple patches the bugs and people get desperate. |

Interesting approach!
![]() Nice to hear there is a cydia hack to fix this. Although I get this sneaking suspicion most people are going to be too afraid to do the necessary steps to gain ownership over their own property. ![]() |

Apple stopped signing 8.4 like the day after I posted that but if someone hasn't updated they can still get the Calibre integration back by jailbreaking and installing that tweak.

And we can safely assume at some point a new jailbreak will be discovered.
