I tried this on my Touch with fw 3.16 and after safely and physically removing the Touch it went into restore mode, so I ended up with a squeaky clean e-reader
Any suggestions ?

All seems to be ok with night mode V13 with this FW 3.17.0 on my Glo (not HD). The ghosting appeared with 3.15.0 and 3.16.0 is still there but less important but there is no link with this night mode patch.

Hi, no ghosting for me. Downloading now the 3.17, I'll let you know.

Edit: I confirm, no ghosting under 3.17

I'm clearly missing something, I followed the instructions...
I copied the file in the .kobo dir, unplug and wait for reboot. Nothing happened, no new files are created... What I'm missing?

+1, I applied the patch 13 to the Firmware 3.17.3 and pressing the light button prompted a restoring

- RESET AND UPDATE THE FW (if you don't just want to install nightmode, go to "6.") :
1. If your kobo is ok you don't have to do this point, you just have to update the FW and directly go to "2." ; this case is only if your device does not work anymore : reset your kobo with a paper clip, start it and stop it.
2. download and extract the FW (the .zip files) in a directory on your computer
3. stop completly your device and plug it to your computer
4. copy the file KoboRoot.tgz (don't extract it !!!) that you can find in the directory extracted at step "2." and paste it to the directory .kobo of your device
5. don't unplug your device, but first eject it and unplug it after... your device should power on alone, wait and do nothing till it's over => you should see some squares during one or two minutes : it's the update of your device in this new FW and at the end of start you are with the new FW !

- NOW THE NIGHT MODE :
6. power off your device completly (long press on power button)
7. plug it to your computer and do exactly the same steps with the KoboRoot.tgz of nightmode.zip (thoose steps are 2. to 6.)
8. test : a LONG press on the light button should alternate between the 2 modes
9. If all is ok, restore your ebooks on your device

NB : sorry for my bad english, I'm french.

Sure I did, probably I didn't power it off and eject it after transfered the file.
Now the patch is correctly installed (as I see new files are created) but I cannot activate the night mode
