Multiple entries of same file

I am trying to load 1000+ files in my calibre library. But unfortunately its adding 1 file 1000 times. Any help as to how to fix this issue? Thanks a lot in advance.

What I am trying to say is.. When I used the Add File option on Calibre. No matter which file I select, it adds multiple entries of a particular file. I get a pop up which says 11 duplicates found. Even if I dont select the file thats been duplicated. Can someone please help me resolve this? Thanks a lot.

How are you trying to load it?
I usually use Drag & Drop. Works with numerous files.

There are many ways of how to add a file.

'Duplicates' happen when the (Author+Title+Identifier) metadata (that hits Calibre) is the same.

If you use the Filename Method (Preferences: adding books), the TEMPLATE must be able resolve those from the filename (and end up with a unique pair)

If you use the internal (to file), It has to be there

and it has to also be unique

If you are adding 1 folder and getting 11 lines (records) in calibre, you probable need an Index.html to tie and order a series of HTML into 1 book

NO matter which way i try. it keeps pointing to that one file. So if i select 10 files, it adds 10 duplicates of the same file.

See I havent made changes to any file or settings. I am using calibre the way it is without making any change in settings. It worked fine yesterday but today giving these duplicate entries of the same file

I will give an example of what I am trying to do. Say if i have files A, B, C, D, E, F. All in ePub format. If I select A, or B or C or A - F, it adds a file X depending on how many I select. The file X is not even selected. But it keeps making duplicate entries of X. Why is this happening? Any ideas? I am just frustrated trying to figure out the problem. So please help.. Thanks

We have told you the possible causes.

You need to check ALL the settings associated with Adding books.
Something changed (maybe, without your permission). It is called setting corruption. (descriptions, don't help. Exact names and exact settings are needed. Something is now really wacky. Calibre does not add files not selected. (

Filesystem error. Run the OS disk check utility)

If your library settings is JUST the default (as shipped) Just rename the configuration folder. It will regenerate.
If you have added plugins, those (and their settings) will be lost.

The Library remains

Could you maybe take some screen shots showing exactly what you are selecting and all that you see on the screen. It might help us understand.

Thank you so much for your timely replies everyone.. But I figured out what the problem was.. I accidentally over wrote multiple files in my calibre library with the metadata of one file.. Thats why the duplicate files..Since I have a huge amount of files and was randomly selecting files to figure out the issue I didnt notice this before. I dont know how it happened .. Now I am restoring all the files back ... Thank you once again ..
