I wish my 700 had a dictionary lookup. Had to come to the PC to lookup atavistic, and while at my PC just had to check in to MR, thus displaying the kind of behaviour that seems to be a product of impulses long since suppressed by society's rules.

From Latin- pulchra, meaning beautiful. Don't know why a whole bunch of letter at the end..
You need to learn Latin better .

"Pulchritudinous" does not come from the adjective "pulcher/pulchra"but from the related noun "pulchritudino -onis" ("beauty", "excellence"). That's the reason for the "whole bunch of letters at the end" .

That is correct - it's called a "thorn" and is still used in languages like Icelandic. It's written like a letter "P" with the vertical bar extending up above the "loop" as well as below it.

It is a huge - but very common - mistake to prounce words like "Ye" as though they were started with "Y". "Ye" is prounounced identically to "The" and is simply a variant spelling of the word.

can i interest you in this magnificent epub dictionary, made by our very own nick ? i can attest that although it's a bit old it's still very useful. i have it on my 700 and between nick's excellent, excellent linked index at the front (to get you as close as possible to the word you want) and the 700's brilliant search / skim fonctions, it's actually a very good compromise while we wait for sony to get a clue and integrate dictionary lookup. i love it so much i'm working on an epub version of the académie française french dictionary as well (huge project. i have even more respect for nick now that i've tackled my own).

Heh, I minored in it. 5 semesters. Didn't know there was a longer version of the word (I would have remembered it if I saw it).
