I'm going to buy a guitar pick and try that. I want to minimize any cosmetic damage, if possible.

I'll let everyone know what transpires....
I use the edge of my thumbnail, you only need to push the clips away from the groove/lip that they are hooked to. Less than an 1/16" movement should be required for the clips to give way allowing a portion of the bezel to lift from the rest of the case. It should get easier as you progress around the case.

Luck;
Ken

Unfortunately, I keep my fingernails short.

I've tried a washer, but it's too small and the thickness is a bit too much.

I have nothing else around the house, except a hammer!

ADDED: Thanks for the added photo on your earlier post.

Start at a corner is easier. As you slide guitar pick around you can feel lock tab and twist guitar pick there then continue sliding pick around. I have made guitar pick from old credit card or hotel room key. Cut out shape with scissor. I use sand paper on side and tip edge a little to have sharp edge getting rid of blunt edge. No sand paper use concrete or rock to grind down edge.

I guess you could get something like this. Or some of the other options on that page.

Luck;
Ken

I have two stories to tell, but only one of them is true. You must decide which one is true:

Story Number One:

I finally manged to open the Kobo case using a long fingernail to get it pried open, as suggested by one of our members. [Image #1]. After that, a stolen credit card was used for the remainder of the case. I heard an audible pop, but the case was not damaged at all. I later celebrated by going to Best Buy and charging a number of expensive items on the card.

After opening the device, I was at first confused by the innards. [Image #2.] I failed to locate a cable or battery, even though I removed all the tubes in order to get a better view. As can be seen, the inside may account for the unusual shape of the case, which garnered confusion and consternation upon the Kobo HD's initial release. I inadvertently broke one tube, but I was able to insert the base of the tube back into its socket without any further mishap. Thinking perhaps that the battery was hidden inside the circuit board (since this is new innovation in battery technology, I understand), I decided to charge the unit, as suggested by one member here who felt the battery might be depleted. After the fire truck left, the only thing I was able to save was one black sock. [Image #3.]

Story Number 2:

I was able to open it with one bruised fingernail, and then used a credit card to further remove the front bezel. Unfortunately, everything was tight and intact. And the problem still remains.

Not sure which one is true, but story 1 is definitely the better story .
